I just purchased my first Gold Wing last Saturday after having all different types of motorcycles over the last 20 years or so.  I just wanted to see if there are any other Wing riders that belong this to this forum.

Thanks,

Brian

I use an 84 GL-1200 several times a week for commuting.  It slices and dices traffic like a Ronco Veg-O-Matic, and can do a spirited ride across the Ortega.

Never ridden a GL-1500.  I'm sure they're awfully nice, too!

I have a GL1800.  Great engine, not so great suspension (which can be fixed by Traxxion).  I use it as an economy car and for long trips when I want to be able to lock up all my luggage.

That was my exact feeling towards my 'old' Gl1800.  I was expecting a magic carpet ride not harsh kickback over bumps.
Fantastic motor/brakes/handling though.

My banker says it's a done deal - and he ought to know!

New '08 in Titanium.

I'll have to fly and pick it up, so it may be a week or two before I'm officially in the saddle.

Count me in as Wing rider 1993 GL1500A.
We like to tour and camp (with a Bunkhouse camper no sleeping on the ground for us).
Wife and I may not count as Sport-touring riders but I like the info I find on this site.

BIG Sport Tourer?

Ignore
« Reply #17 on: April 22, 2008, 08:52:03 PM »

BigBird is a 2001 GL1800 ABS with 147K HARD miles.  It has Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 fork kit and rear spring/shock and we're able to keep up with most of the sport bikes in the twistes.  The reason I joined this board is to try to link up with some folks that like to ride the twisties QUICKLY Smile

There is no better 2+up (me wife + 12 lb dog) Sport Trouing bike. Inlove

We flew BigBird to Europe in 2006 for 7 weeks and 8K miles (about 1/2 of that in the Alps & Dolomites) and had great fun chasing all of the sport bikes in the mountains.  Smile It REALLY irritates many of them when they can't drop a Goldwing with a passenger in the twisties Lol

One of the reasons BigBird is such a great bike is all the goodies we've added on  Smile like: RADAR Detector, Laser Jammer, 4 extra 55W lamps in front (880 Watts total), AllyKat Mufflers, TorqLopz Cat eliminator, Russel Day Long saddle with heat, Heated Grips, Mirror wings, CB, XM, GPS, Windbender Electric windsield, SmarTire system and Tank Bag.

If you have any questions on mods, etc. drop me a line as I've done all of them that are worth doing and would be glad to share what I've learned.

I just had the frame replaced in the last 2 weeks of the 7 year warranty and took the opportunity to replace the engine/transmission with one from and 04 with only 4K miles - So I should be good for another 7 years  Inlove

Rmember - Under all that plastic it is just a BIG Sport Bike  Lol

People think that I'm B.S.'ing them when I say this is one of the best handling bikes I've owned.  I'm not a great rider, but I can ride this thing with far more confidence through the twisty stuff than any other bike I've owned since my EX500.  The low center of gravity on these things really helps.
