Well, I can say I've seen something new at work today.

A locally well known intoxicated gentleman decided he wanted to get his big Yami cruiser running today.  It sat in his yard all winter and the battery was dead.  He had a buddy with him that owned a truck and a rope.  They decided the best thing to do was to tie one end of the rope to the left fork tube just above the fender Crazy  and the other end to the hitch of the truck.  The drunk guy got his sober (but stupid) buddy to sit on the bike while he drove the buddy's truck. They tried to pull start it in the middle of the city street with predictable results.

The rope was of course not centered and slammed the bike and rider to the pavement.  The buddy torn up his left hand and cut his forehead.  The drunk was arrested for his 5th DWI and his bike is thrashed.

Yikes, that's not the the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a pull start.  Crazy

I used to have a little Rupp that had a pull-start engine... you know, like a lawnmower.   Lol

Well, I'll own up I guess,
" I really need to get home cause my points cam is wiped out and I'll never get it started"
" No prob just grab on to my luggage rack with your left hand and I'll tow ya, dont worry I wont go fast and you can let go anytime ya want"
"uh This isnt working very well"
" hmmm...Well lets try this rope, I'll tie it to my luggage rack, you take one turn around your handle bar in the middle of the cross brace and hold it with your left hand, you can just let go when you want"...

And I though this thread was going to be about how somebody made a street legal frankenbike powered by a lawn mower engine. I wish I could have seen that in person though.

[OT]Although I remember getting really adept at duck walk push starting my Seca II when It had a charging problem. I had to leave it on the tender to get enough juce when I knew the bike would cool down all the way. But I could bump start it by myself on even a flat grade if it was hot. I had to make sure my stops where quick or if I went to a friends to bring the tender with me.

I ran the electrical system and found a bad connection but that must have not been the whole problem because the guy who bought it from me had to replace the rectifier/regulator.[/OT]

Go to any amateur racing event and you'll see people getting pulled, but I don't think I've ever seen one tied to the tow vehicle. Some are pushed by their rearsets some hold a rope/strap and are pulled, whatever. They are usually pulled/pushed by a pit bike or golfcart. I have watched dirt bikes get pulled outta the woods with a strap, so it's possible. However a drunk with no understanding of physics and a pick'em up truck is not such a good combo.  Wink

I think towing is different than trying to pull start, if you know what you're doing...... Wink

I've towed dead dirtbikes with my dirtbike and a rope, or in one case an old garden hose Lol. It works OK until the cops see you on the street, full dirtbikes, and garden hose. Lol Hey, we were going slow and in the "bike lane" what's the big deal? Headscratch

My buddy had me tow his '82 Honda FT500 (Ascot) to start it a few times - had a bad starter mechanism..

I used a Silverado as the tugger though, not my bike! Bigsmile
