Great Ontario Northern Alternative Destination Sport Tour

May as well get things rolling early...

Taking suggestions for:

- Roads/Routing
- Camping/Lodging Ideas
- Points Of Interest you're interested in pointing at
- Logo!
- Which Weekend
- Food ideas
- How many hours/kilometers people are interested in riding in a day/over the weekend
- Whatever else comes to mind

I'm planning on some weekend scouting runs early in the season to check road conditions, etc. so we'll have current data.  We'll also need to come to a consensus about whether people are willing to camp (rough or park camping) or if they will need more solid lodging which will impact route choices somewhat.  There are discussions of most of the major Northern Ontario roads here (http://bikeroads.atspace.com/todo_nor.htm) to get your imaginations flowing.  I definitely think Highway 17 north of the Soo should be on the itinerary as it's one of the best riding roads around.  It's the rest of the trip that'll need fleshing out.  We'll have at least 1 GPS (mine) so no worries about getting lost.  Insect seasons are also a concern as the blackflies and mosquitoes can be somewhat annoying (read bloody vicious) if caught at the wrong time of the wrong year.  So far the winter has been very dry through most of the north so that should limit the bugs somewhat if the weather holds.  Still, good insect repellent should be considered a must.  Also, things like first aid kits should be seriously thought about as there are large areas with absolutely zero cellular service.  Well folks, lets have at it and see what we can come up with!

I understand that the loop up to Elliott Lake is pretty good. Can you confirm this?

Sounds good for '07 too!  Razz

One of the roads on my little list to try out.  A couple of people on the bikeroads link talk quite highly about it.
