What would you like to see a MC manufacturer offer.

For me, I would like to see something like an FJR or ST 750.

Yea, I have a 1200S Bandit, but it was not for the power as much as the chassis size.  I would  really like to see the makers offer some bikes for normal people.  I do not need 100+HP to commute to work or go out for a nice long ride.

Which would be kinda awesome.  What's that middleweight, Euro-only Honda ST bike?

Ah yes, the Deuville.  Me likey.

How about a lightweight water cooled, carbeurated bike with  valves the common man can adjust , Ditch the shim and bucket design. make it shaft drive, 6 speed, with some wind protection.   In short, just update the connie 1000. Dont get all crazy like the connie 14. Simple and reliable, cheap maintanance but upgrade the handling. Reasonable price would be great too.

Razz I meant FJR 750 or ST 750.  Either would be a nice ride with the engine set up for power in the lower and middle RPMs where it is needed in the real world.  Razz

Dred - That Honda NT700V Deauville is a nice bike. Now if only they would bring it to the states and in a 4cyl version although the twin probably has a better type of power for what it will be used for.

How about a shaft drive or belt drive st machine of 750 to 1000 cc that runs on regular grade fuel and gets 45mpg,the mileage on motorcycles sucks, and could much better if you think about it,a car that out weighs a bike by a thousand or more pounds with a simular hp engine does much better

One would think, but then again I do not drive my truck in the same manner as I do my bike. I am sure most folsk are a bit harder with teh thrttle on their bike than they are in theri cars.  You also have to take into account that smaller engines are more susceptable to parasitic loss than larger engine are..  They require more of their avaiable power to just run than a bigger engine does.  One would have to see how much HP it takes to keep my Tacoma going a steady 55mph and then see what it takes to keep the Bandit going 55mph.  The difference in MPG might seem more realistic then.

true but there are sportcars that do ok there too, really bikes could do way better and still perform,we just accept this as the way it is,for what our machines weigh and the power to weight ,they should do much better,in all these years there hasn't been any improvement in mileage or even it holding steady, its dropping and dropping, yes displacement and horsepower has some to do with it,but they get a GP out of a tank of gas going at ungodly speeds ,and they tightened the amount they are able to use for these huge HP machines. And no they don't run WFO all the time(look at the tracks and recorded speeds/gear in the tightturns) so there must be some advances in fuel usage /metering avalable

As far as I know, the new BMW F800 series is the first designed with fuel consumption in mind.  Since we as Americans buy our bikes as toys, it just isn't much of a selling point here, but that may change.

Madjack --   Yep.  However, the GP bikes are running fully programable and adjustable-on-the-fly fuel injection systems.

Let's use Donington Park and a Suzuki GSV-R for example.  Donington Park is a 2.5 mile track.  The Gp is 23 laps which gives us a race distance of 57.5 miles.  The GSV-R has a 5.8 gallon tank.  How much fuel do you think they use during the race?  Lets say 4 gallons, that comes out to just over 14 MPG.

Here is what I found for F1 Cars - Race fuel consumption rate is normally around 75 litres per 100 kilometres travelled (3.1 US mpg - 3.8 UK mpg).

Makes the bike look alot better doesn't it

Makes the bike look alot better doesn't it
I know but they can do better and if fuel keeps going the way it is they may have to to survive ,or stop producing motorcycles ,time will tell. And to put this back on topic another thing I want to see is an end to the endless bigger is better displacement wars

I fuel keeps headin up, I am thinking used 250 NightHawk or 250 dual sport.  Mileage should be quite good with one of those.

A new Honda Blackbird with 1200-1400cc, no VTEC. Not that the current Blackbird is a poor bike (not by far), but a lot of ex-Blackbird owners now ride ZX14, FJR and Busa because Honda still hasn't come up with a new hyper sport tourer. Wake up mr.Honda!!

I wouldn't mind that they keep making engines bigger, IF they'd make some decent mid-sized bikes with the same technology.
Conversely, I don't see the need for bigger (and bigger) engines - aren't they getting more power per cc than ever before?

Bring Honda's VTR 250 to us!  And make a short person's version, as my high school aged daughter's Ninja 250 was too tall for her, stock.  Even with smallest tires and shaved seat and thick soled boots, it's still a stretch.

And a 400 or 500 version of the VTR would be nice, too.

I'd especially like to see factory made street legal supermoto kits for the smaller XR's, like my two XR-100's I bought for my kids to practice with.  Chris Carr's American Supercamp lessons were worth every cent.  We made a practice track at Grandma's house for them to play on.  Now none of our street bikes have any chicken strips.

How about a Honda VF1000ST with the latest in VTEC tech.  Add single sided swing arm and shaft drive like beemers have. Also include and updated and fully adjustable suspension. Keep the linked ABS brakes as standard. This in my (unqualified) opinion would be a better sport touring machine.  I am sure you could still have fun on track days with it.

And how about a VF800RR and VF1000RR no VTEC, but gear driven, with updated and fully adjustable suspension.  This way you can really substantiate having the "R" in the "VFR".

If Honda's V4 tech is so superior, then why not demonstrate its flexibility?

How about bringing back the Nighthawk with an updated inline 750, shaft drive and modern suspension and linked ABS brakes.  Add some optional fairing pieces to it like Yamaha has done to the FZ1.

Add to the above bikes universal luggage racks that can accomodate already available luggage.

Just dreaming out loud, now its back to reality.

+1 on a scaled down FJR or similar.  I got tired of waiting on one and bought an FZ6 a little over a year ago.  I put a Givi trunk on it, but am still holding out for some good lookin' side cases.  Here's my photochop of an FJR side case on the FZ6.  Probably the closest thing out there right now would be the Givi V35's.

0-60 in 4 seconds does eat a fair amount of fuel, I'm thinkin.

Do they make a Toyota that goes 0-60 in 4 sec? If so let me know 'cause I want one if they do...

This one is easy for me: an ST version of the Buell 1125R! This wish will probably come true within 2-3 years. By then my youngest child will be out of college, so I will have money to burn.....well, not really, but maybe I can afford a new bike then. Bigsmile

I want them to bring back the mid sized shafties, like the Sabre or the GSX1100G, even the XS series from Yamaha.

Yea, the FJR abd the ST1300 are nice, but overly large and complicated.

I may yet buy a mid to early 90's GSX1100G and put a GS1100E fairing on it go touring. Thought about a Sabre or such, but the engine needs a oil kit and a better front end, but possible.

Just looking to knock off a little weight. And I don't need another project, 2 is too many.
