I was in a Honda Dealership last weekend visiting my friend who informed me that You will be able to buy the Varadaro here this year, It is rumored that the new transalp will be here in 2009. (It is a reported 680 cc's)

I was told that they (the sales staff of this dealer) have been invited out to a demo ride shortly, and that there was a demo bike at their recent dealer meeting here. (It was still not riding weather however)

They could not tell me if the U.S. were going to get either bike though.

A little blog on it here.

It doesn't look much different from the new KLR 650.

Except for the extra spark plug and a few horses...... I'd trade my KLR and cash for that V twin in a heartbeat.

It uses the same 700cc v-twin as the Honda Deauville.  This will make a good competitor to the new F800GS for the middle-weight adventure bikes in Canada.  Too bad we're not worthy for it here in the US.   Thumbsdown

I doubt that it's we're not worthy and more to do with the dollar.

Well they tried the Transalp here in the US in 1989-90, and it was a little before their time and didn't sell well.  So it seems that they had made some conclusions about our market from that experience.  The weak dollar could also be a factor, but I think the big picture is that Honda thinks the US streetbike market is only supersports & cruisers.

I have done an extensive search and so far this is nothing more than rumour. But hey, it is fun to think about. KLR's sell really well here so it makes sense.
