I am looking at replacing my current sport bike for something newer (read more reliable). My current 1993 ZX-11 is an absolute blast to ride but it is getting expensive to repair and keep on the road.

In thinking about my riding style I am interested in a sport touring bike (300-400 miles/day) with 120 - 150 HP with a dry weight less than 400Lbs. The GSX-R750 meets that requirement. I like spirited riding, but by no means am I a profficent high speed rider.

How does the bike ride and handle? Is it comfortable for 6 - 8 hours of sadle time?

Thanks.

the first is a silly question, surely you're heard of gixxers!

the second question can only truly be answered by you and depends on a lot of factors... how old are you... how flexible are you...  how tall are you... how fit are you...  how high is your tolerance for discomfort.......?  go to a shop, take a seat and try to imagine yourself on that bike all day for a few days in a row.  it will not be anywhere as plush and comfy as the ZX, so how adaptable are you?

what used to be my vfr was ridden away by it's new owner a couple of days ago, so i'm pondering the same thing myself.  the gix is not a "sport-touring" bike by any accepted definition, but every bike is a traveling machine if the pilot is up for it.

I use a 2005 Kawi ZX-6R for sport-touring. 10 hour days are typical. If the GSXR fits, go for it. Cortech soft luggage and a tank bag and you're good to go. I'm no youngster at 47, but I am tall and lanky, so the reach to the bars is no big deal (ie I'm not laying over the tank). You might want to look into deals on liter sportbikes from a  generation or two back. Something like a Triumph Daytona 955 might be a great option. Ergos might be more relaxed and the extra torque is nice. Just don't grab a big handful of GoFast if you're not ready for it though.

It really comes down to how well you fit on the bike and if you're fit enough to support your torso with your abs/back, not your arms.

I considered the 750 but it was one size smaller than the 1000 so I went with that. I'm 6'1 200 lb. and it fits me fine. here I am heading out on a 3000 mile trip last year Inlove                  http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o117/Hinterlan/biketrip07b4007.jpg

Depends on how fit you are.  Additions of Heli bars, and a more comfortable seat, such as a Corbins, would make a big difference for distance work.

I regularly rode my stock 2002 GSXR1000 for 300 mile days, plus trips, and a 900 mile day once.  Presently have Heli's on my 2005 GSXR1000 and they were a big improvement to  comfort.

Bigsmile The 600, 750 and 1000 GSXRs are all effectively dimensionally identical. Just admit that you wanted that "one zero zero zero" sticker.  Wink

An issue of "Sport Rider" last year had a pretty good article about converting a late model Gixxer into an ST bike. They are still a very small, compact bike, but with risers, touring screen, seat, and setting the adjustable rearsets (very neat!) to their lowest setting it could work.
I've toyed with the idea of getting one. If you look at the design of the flat, spade-like tail section, it might even be possible to remove both side tail "panels" and replace them with flat mounts for a pair of very tight, almost conformal hard cases.

I'll admit to wanting the POWER Inlove I sold my Busa for the 1000! I lowered my pegs and put on some heavier bar end weights but that was it for the touring mod's. The Busa had a gel seat, double bubble screen and heli bars and the 1000 is just as comfortable, at least for me...your actual comfort may vary  Bigsmile

I've had the pleasure of riding a 2006 GSXR 750 for about an hour.  I was pleasantly surprised at how comfy it was.  Granted, I'm 32 yrs old, in shape, and small (5'6" and 130lbs).  But I was thinking, with a set of bar risers, I could ride that bike for quite a while.  Air flow was decent too, but I'm sure a double bubble would make it even better.

The owner of the GSXR had just purchased it in addition to his BMW K1200 sport tourer (can't remember if is an R or S) .  His first 300 mile day on the GSXR left him a little sore, but I don't think it was anything too bad.
