The other day I bought a '07 ZX-6R.  [Not a ST bike, but that is why I kept the R1200R.  Lol ]  I had a real shock when the service guy told me, and we looked it up in the owner's manual since I was so surprised, about the break in period.  The motor should be kept below 4k RPM for the first 500 miles, then below 6k RPM until 1000 miles.  Holy crap!!  The bike doesn't make any power until over 6k RPM!!

What do the other Kawasaki bikes require for break in?

My '06 ZX14 has the same break in, however, Bigsmile I have my own....
I keep it below 6,000rpm for 600mi., change the oil then ride it like I would every day. (hard) It's a procedure that's worked well for me for the last 35yrs or so.. Bigok

Change is good, but only for a while..
Kawasaki makes the best "sport-TOURING" motorcycle, until I buy something else.......

Take it easy for the first 500mls. Then don't worry to much. Normal riding is fine.

After the 1k you can start dumping the clutch for wheelies and burnouts hitting the rev limiter Thumbsup Bigsmile

That's about what I did for my '06 ZX-14.  I avoided going over 6 or 7K, and definitely no runs to the rev limiter for the first 600 miles, changed the oil, then rode it normally from then on out, changing the oil again at 1200 miles, 2000 miles, 3000 miles, and every 3K since.  No problems for me either over many different brand new bikes.
