Does the '04 model year 919 have a clock?  From the specs I can find it looks like they added a clock in '05.

Thank you.  What do you think of the bike?  A local dealer has an 04 with 3800 miles that can probably be had OTD for $5K.  The Uranium color doesn't do it for me and the rear is pretty well toast already which makes me a bit suspicious.  Other than the lower head bearing leaking grease, the chain adj nearly at it's end, and a dead battery (didn't get to ride it  Mad2) it looked to be okay.

My SO has 25K on hers and it is the '03 matte asphalt. Bought new in Feb 2005 for $6,998. The chain looked like that from day one. It was replaced at 17K. Great Price for an '04, but not a pretty color.

i love my 919. engine performance is excellent, with strong torque from low revs up to redline. the fi provides great throttle response in sportriding situations, when you want to apply power smoothly while grip is dear. i never rode a pre-04, but i understand that the suspension is stiffer on the later bikes, and i like it that way. no wallowing, no bottoming.

the stock rear tire does wear quickly, and 3800 is not unexpected. i'd suggest a bt020 or other sport-touring tire as a replacement. it seems to me that the stock chain slack spec is too tight, so it stretches prematurely. i'm running it looser than that now and no longer have to adjust it frequently.

if you're buying from a honda dealer--and you'd like that matte metallic green to just go away--try to get body parts for a better color worked into the deal at a good price. the tank, fender, and tailpiece can be had for $800 or so from ron ayers, and your dealer can probably match that if he thinks it's necessary to close the deal. the other '04 color was silver, the '05 was a metallic black, and the '06-'07 is an excellent candy apple red.

i didn't really like the chromed plastic instrument case, so i replaced it with the '02-'03 matte black plastic part.

i highly recommend the centerstand (see related thread) and honda's flyscreen, which reduces windblast a bit without creating annoying turbulence.

Thanks for the review SJ.  I really like the 919 as an evolutionary UJM. I talk about a lot of other bikes but in the end I'll probably get one of these.  Good basic fun without breaking the bank.
