Let's get a T-shirt design happening so that we can a good price quote on shirts. I need to nail down dinner and T-shirt costs before I can open up event registration. R Doug has offered to lead the charge on the T-shirt front.

I believe the current thinking is to marry the Marlinton Autumn Festival "Roadkill Cookoff" (happening the same weekend) with the twisties/mountains of WV in a design/slogan. The ESTN info web page currently has the working slogan of "Twisty Thrills and Roadkill" with this bit of clipart that I nabbed somewhere on the web:

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i150/garrysimmons/ESTN2008/roadkill.png

So the rough T-shirt idea is to put the STN oval logo on the front (see below) and some kind of ESTN2008 logo on the back that integrates WV twisties and the cookoff. That's where we need some input: we need an event logo. Maybe something as simple as a WV state silhouette with the possum clipart and some cool lettering with the slogan. I'm totally open to ideas.

Thoughts? Discuss...

I think its possum, but will  it be cooked ?
if so, how?
sounds like"bubba gump-WV style"
baked, boiled,fried,kabobs,stewed, etc.

ST.n on the front and
ESTN  08  with "Roadkill" on the back.

Definitely.

If you go with the road kill theme, I suggest a silhouette of VW containing a twisty road or several through it with a few small road kill graphics representing different species along side the numbered routes that lead to icons for Marlinton and of course the Roadkill Cafe, on the map put a motorcycle graphic passing over or past one of the roadkill graphics.  Maybe throw in a Road Kill logo or a slogan like "Road Kill, It's what's for dinner" or  nother idea, "Marlinton, Where Sport-Touring meets(makes) dinner (or hunting, possum stew, etc.)'',  parentheses being alternatives.

Great ideas everyone.

I like the simplicity of the dead opossum graphic.  What I was thinking was to have the dead opossum in the foreground with a spoke motorcycle wheel in the background.

I’m not an artist, but I was thinking something like this…

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c132/doog71/ESTN%2008/ESTN08.jpg

(This would look at lot better is someone who knew what they are doing did it)

Then the top part of the back of the shirt would read:

ESTN 2008

Then, the text around the tire would read:

Twisty Thrills & Roadkill

And finally, the bottom part of the back of the shirt would read:

Marlinton, WV

I like Windblown's idea too, but I would take out the WV emblem and have a larger image of the roadkill on it.  Thumbsup

Steph, that's a great adaptation of Windblown's image.  Like others, I really liked Windblow's concept, but thought it was a little busy.

What does everyone think of this evolution?  I like the roadsign and dead opossum.

Perhaps someone more Photoshop savvy than myself would know how to put the "twisties ahead" arrow on there, but instead of a solid black squiggly arrow, use a tire tread pattern (running over the possum). Of course that would get in the way of the other text on the sign which would probably need to move off the sign. Just trying to get the "twisties" into the sign design...

Can we get the URL on there yet? I thought that was a nice touch. At least when a non member sees the shirt, they have a clue as to what it means if they look us up??

I don't want to see it get too busy either, but IMO the URL should be there

It's an easy change between Twisty and Twisted. Yes, "twisted" has more an edge to it.

I revised my attempt at the sign design (previous page) to say "Twisty" (for R Doug) and to rid the possum of the blue-tinged fur. Time for bed...

I messed around with it last night with little success. I extracted the black arrow into its own layer and applied a "herringbone" fill pattern to it. Didn't quite look like a tire tread. Couldn't get the right effect with opacity either. Where the "tread" is black, it should be 100% opaque, but we need it to look like it rolled over the possum (with possum showing between the tread). Not quite sure how to do either. I guess we need a "transparent" background on the tire tread arrow or something.

Like I said, someone with Photoshop experience needed. I also think I put too much text on there. In retrospect, it looks busy. I could lose the "Sept 24 -26" part. Maybe move the URL to a little rectangular sign under the diamond that would normally say "Next 77 miles" or something. That would leave "ESTN 2008", "Twisty Thrills", "and Roadkill", "Marlinton, WV" as the text along the edges of the sign.

I definitely like the sign better than my original state outline idea.

I uploaded the PhotoShop PSD file here if you want to play with it:

Anyone want to have a shot at making a tire tread fill pattern? I found this tutorial on how to do it in PhotoShop, but it uses a car tire, and I'm not sure it would quit give the desired effect without more tweaking...

UPDATE:

I contacted Desteenation about doing the ESTN shirts (they are the official STN T-shirt supplier) and Peter/jimmystartup says no problem, but they're crushed right now with WRCM and the National. So we'll have something official happening in a month or so.

That means we have a month to finalize the artwork. Peter says the current artwork works for him. So this is a last call for changes to the twisty/roadkill sign or some new idea altogether.

Once I get back from the National, we'll be doing the final steps to let people buy the shirt. Current thinking is to use a dark charcoal gray shirt, just like the artwork background with the STN logo on the chest.

I like it!  It will be my next favorite T-Shirt.  Put me down for an XL.

Once we get it set up at Desteenation (late June), you will click on a link to their web site and order it directly from them (shipped free to your house). That makes the logistics a WHOLE lot easier for me. That's the game plan for National T-shirts and it seems like a great one to me... All that is left is to finalize the artwork (and we may be done as it sits).

Garry,

I will keep an eye out for the post.

Thanks for arranging all of this.  Didn't I also read somewhere about a group dinner?  Whats up on that?

I need to call the woman that runs the restaurant attached to the Motor Inn and reserve most of the dining room. Then work out some way to offer a few complete meal choices all for the same amount. I already have a PayPal account and separate bank account set up for taking dinner reservations once I have a firm price per meal in hand. At least that's the current plan. The meet isn't for four more months, but I want to get that nailed down. Just been busy and keep forgetting to call.

Nope, but I'm hoping for $15 to cover a complete dinner with tip and tax. We'll see. Won't exceed $20, that's for sure.

I join in the salute to all your efforts so far, from site, to meal (obviously roadkill buffet), to T-shirt and logo.   Clap

Sure hope to be there.
