Tampa, Kansas is on the old Santa Fe Trail and is accessible via poorly paved roads.
Hillsboro for lunch. This region is largely Mennonite German, and the food is hearty.
Tampa, Kansas
The old church is a warehouse, and the old hotel is empty.
The abandoned school is an especially nice building
the view towards home plate from right field
The Lutheran cemetery is directly on the path of the Santa Fe Trail and the old ruts are still visible. Most older markers are in German.

Daniel, is everything in Kansas abandoned? It sure seems that way from your photos...

Another fine capture of the experience visiting small and semi-ghost towns of KS.

I've decided i'm going to take up this hobby. I know of several decaying ks towns that would be a great excuse to go for a ride.

In Kansas, every isolated town (not paired with a much larger city) with less than a 1,000 people is probably doomed. The land is still worked, but the number of people it takes to plant and harvest is vastly smaller than it once was. The very purpose of the town (banks, stores, schools) is gone. They will linger on as a place for some people to live, but not as a functioning town.

I probably have some relatives there.

Its happening here as well. Although the first wave left during the depression.
Thanks for the pic Daniel.
