Not personally. I've ridden other rallies. I know quite a few people who've ridden the 1088. If you're wanting a good challenge, then the 1088 is hard to beat.

Steve Chalmers puts on a first rate rally.  The roads are absolutely great in Utah if you haven't been there.  The only caution I would make is that the deer population has been way out of control in Utah for several years.  You really have to be careful at night.

The banquet is a great experiance.  Steve usually gives thousands of dollars in door prizes away.  The riders have always been a great bunch of people.

I highly recommend it.

Go to http://www.utah1088.com and read the rider stories. I wrote one for our 2-up ride in 2005, http://www.utah1088.com/riderstories/2005_Utah1088_TripReport.swf.

Steve puts on a first rate rally and very well organized. Steve is a class act. You meet some really great people there, lots of parking lot tire kicking. Utah has some incredible motorcycle roads and Steve takes you on many of them. The scenery is awesome!! It is a tough rally, last year it was in the high 90s all day, and then needed the Gerbings at night.

I'm in as well - first time.  My cousin's husband is riding also (first time).  She wanted me to help him at the start.  My answer to that was I'd ride it with him!  Sounds like a challenging and fun adventure.  Can't wait!

Are the two of you riding it Brokeback Rally style, or on two separate bikes?  Lol

Does anyone who had ridden both the Cal24 and the Utah 1088 have any comaparative observations about the two?

Anyone else on this board riding the 1088? I've done several IBA style rallies, but have never participated in one that has 3 check points in 26 hours. Let's hear the ride stories!

Hey helodoc, what other rallies have you ridden?

This year I'm riding the 1088 for the first time. I've ridden the Cal 24 three times, and the White Stag once. Rallies are lots of fun. The Cal always has three checkpoints, it's not that hard to do in 24 hours. Wish I could do it again this year but my schedule isn't working out. Tom really puts on a great event. I may do the Spank in October. Basically, rallies are the highlight of my riding year.

I've got a couple of writeups. I wish I had written up the other Cal 24s because they were really fun and memorable. Last year I finished fourth.

2003 Cal 24, my first ever rally.
2006 White Stag. 12 hour winter rally in Nevada.

See you in Utah!

I've ridden the Colorado freewheelers 1000-n-24, the Land of Enchantment 1000, and the Northwest Passage 5000. These were plan your own route to get your bonus points type events, but it sounds like steves ride has the basic routes planned for you, with side excursions. Am I on track here, or do you get a rally pack and have to figure out what route will get you the most points?

Hey, I was a volunteer on last year's NWP. I was one of the scorers in Gerlach. It's possible I scored you.

Can't say for sure how Steve runs it, but I'm pretty sure it's what you think - he gives you the basic routes and you decide which bonii to go after. With 3 checkpoints you pretty much have to have a main route. I think there's also a Warchild route - massive mileage, not a lot of bonii, checkpoints optional. Then again what do I know, this year will be the first one.

GREAT REPORT ARMYMEDIC!!

I really enjoyed reading it.  I have not done any rally yet- just a Saddle Sore 1000.  Your report was excellent because it gave a great perspective from a first timer.  I am just so used to reading about the Rally Gods, who are just too far ahead of my skill set.

Thanks for sharing your experienct.

I will be riding the Utah1088 in June of 2008.  First LD Rally for me.  My friend Rachel convinced me to tag along with her.  The GS will be nice to have for the ride.   Bigok

I haven't ridden the 1088 yet, and I'll miss it this year b/c I'm deployed to Afghanistan through November or so. But I do plan on riding the Cal 24, 1088, and possibly the Land of Enchantment 1000 in '09. Especially since I missed the application window for the IBR. I've paid for the Cal 24 3 times, ridden it twice. Last year I missed it b/c the Navy "needed" me in Korea at the last minute. I've heard great thing about the 1088, and look forward to riding it!

Steve Chalmers puts on a first class rally, and is a first class guy! You won't be disappointed in the 1088. This is a tough 24 hour event, with a competetive contigent you won't see at some rallies. If you do well here, then you're doin well everywhere.
 Cool

Since 2009 is an IBR year, I'd suggest getting your application in for the 2008 Utah 1088 soon. There are 100 riders, currently looking for every rally they can ride this summer.  Smile It's going to fill up fast.
