I have to wonder.  Is each person's expectations of a web board different perhaps due to their jobs?

For instance I'm a software programmer.  So when I see software that isn't able to stay up or works like crap, I get pissed because I know that it is likely simple to fix it.

I think the person's job may just be one of many different reasons why different people have different expectations. Shrug

I don't work in the IT field but I still demand certain levels of performance of the basic interface of a web board.

First, "Mr. Sunshine" is a perfect name for you.  Take that any way you want to.
Second, You strike me as the type of person that would complain regardless.  In other words, if you worked in the ditch digging industry, your expectations of how a ditch should be dug would differ from your co-workers.  Furthermore, you would get pissed and complain that the ditch isn't being dug correctly and your way is better. You would then argue that because you work for the ditch digging company, your opinion is as important as the owner's opinion because you worked there X amount of hours and have your time vested, etc.
No offense, but I think this accurately describes your personality.

I volunteer for things like my church and the local Triumph RAT club. This colors my judgement into cutting STN and UFO a lot of slack.

He's a got a job and a life, so if STN works most of the time I'm happy. The fact the the board goes beyond the 'net into real life with the work of more volunteers makes it even more amazing.

Me, I'm a settler.Lol

On the otherhand, if there weren't people like Mr. Sunshine nothing would ever improve so it takes both kinds of people.

My expecations are based in reality.  The problems are simple and easy to fix when you understand the problem.  Its that people don't understand the problem so they just go "Oh whatever" and walk away or deal with it.

If you want some hard problems come work in my group (Core Platform group for Windows) for awhile.  You'll see some very difficult problems and we generally come up with a solution in a weeks time or less.  These solutions affect the millions of people out there that run Windows so it isn't like we are just adding some putty can calling it done.

I don't recall ever receiving messages from you volunteering your expertise, and honestly I wouldn't accept it because you're a whiney, egotistical asshole.  I haven't really acknowledged your existence on the board for a year or two because of this.

Here's another thing for Thatman to ponder. He posted the following in another thread:

Quote
(This) is a place to communicate with other human beings. Its not like I have all the time in the world to go around the country and talk to each of you.

Yet apparently me (and others) have all the time in the world to admin a website for your own entertainment purposes...but I digress. Bigsmile

You also claim that people "don't know you." This is the only way that most of us will get to "know" one another. The tone you use on these board is a basis of how people know you. About two years ago your attitude turned to sour piss...and I have no idea why, but I suspect you have an idea.

Here's a challenge. Instead of being confrontational and negative to almost everyone on every topic why not try a different approach? If the way you behave online is not the real you, then I suggest figuring out who the real you is and letting us get to know you instead of dreading reading every one of your posts. Because I admit, I had you on my ignore list for the past year and forgot how downright negative and abrassive you are. Even your new board name is an attempt to play up your negative attitude.  I don't like having people on my ignore list, but I also don't like someone who browbeats the daylights out of LIFE.

I sincerely hope you are not like that in real life.

I've offered money as the server runs on Linux (or did) and I wouldn't be any help with Linux.  I donated a small sum awhile ago.  I didn't donate anymore as I didn't see the money I donated being put to a good use NOR did I see any more requests for money.

About two years ago this board started to act up.  I said something.  People told me to shutup.  I don't take kindly to being told to shutup when there is a real problem.  So I tell it how it is.  If people don't like to see life how it is that's their problem and the cycle repeats until we get to where we are now.

My new board name is taken from the name that Dante kindly came up for me.  I liked the idea because it was true.  I know I'm a "downer" at times.  But when something is cool I say its cool.  When it sucks I say it sucks.

The one thing that is the same with me in real life as it is on the board is I don't hold back my opinion.  I've been like all my life and I don't plan to change.

But since you suggested so nicely to try not to be "confrontational and negative to almost everyone" I'll follow what I was taught when I five.  I'll just not say anything at all unless I have something nice to say.  At least I'll give it a good go at trying as that is all I can offer.

And I am a tester...nothing is right in the world as a tester. Everything is always broken. Cool
As a software developer I say it is always fixable!

No, you don't get it. You're comparing a well paid Microsoft development team able to throw millions of dollars at solving software problems with someone who runs a website as a hobby.

I don't recall ever receiving messages from you volunteering your expertise, and honestly I wouldn't accept it because you're a whiney, egotistical asshole. I haven't really acknowledged your existence on the board for a year or two because of this.

You..are...annoying...as...hell.
Good answer. Thumbsup
Maybe Mr Sunshine should reincarnate himself as Mrs Whiner

**For everyone's information:

A software developer in jahoobob's neck o' the woods is someone who makes those red long-john underwear as worn by the Clampets.

I expect people to bitch and whine even if they're billionaires with the ability to piss cold Guiness beer.

This way when someone doesn't bitch I'm mildly surprised and pleased.Twofinger

Oh, and it's easy to be a whiney bitch AND a sideline quarterback at the same time.

Damn, I hate it when people spell Guinness wrong!!!! And I want to bitch about it!!!

Ummm, yea hi, uhh, is this the place to complain about how bad IE7 sucks major ass? Lol

Even though I'm a .NET developer, which basically makes me a Microsoft developer, I EXPECTED IE7 to be much better! Burnout

+1, and plus 1 to the UFO philosophy, which I think are pretty much the same, since every once in a while you get a little something! Bigsmile

Expectations;

As long as it’s a voluntary-donation site & a hobby of the site admin I see no reason to bitch & complain. It’s not my place nor is it nice to criticize something someone is doing for you as a hobby.

  Like it was said on another site when this one was down;
Quote
I know better than to borrow someone's spare bedroom when my house burned down, and then complain that their daughter's not pretty enough.

Quit the figgin crying already & move on with life! It’s just a website. Bash
