How do you save a route/map at Google maps and be able to retrieve and share it? I can create and save the map but when I go back to view it there is no route. All I get the entire US map.

I am using "My Maps", that is where I select "Create new map", give it a name and "Save" the map.

I currently have two maps saved and no matter which one I select all I have is the default map of North America.

I have:
tried with two different computers.
tried with both Firefox and Internet Explorer.
done the browser tweaks in the Google help section.
searched the Google maps forums with no luck.
tried saving then e-mailing the link to myself.

I know it shouldn't be this difficult but I am out of ideas.

Mymaps is a bitch to work with.  I couldn't get it to save a route right at all.  You need to make blue-flagged waypoints within Mymaps or the whole US map will be shown.  It's just a pain.

What I do is create the route in normal Google Maps (not Mymaps) and save the link to the route from there.  This has worked fine and I use my otherwise unused yahoo blog to retrieve the link to myself.

Don't really know what you're asking about, but here's what I do...

Make the route, click the 'link to this page' link in the upper right. Copy the insanely long url and go to tinyurl.com and paste. Come back with a small url aimed back at the target like this...

You can skip the whole tinyurl step by just embedding the url in your link [ url=http://...]  Like this.   Bigsmile

Yeah, you can do that here. Not on mailing lists though. Still, it's all good....many options abound.

I had so much trouble saving maps that I just save the URL now. It kept losing maps and overwriting them. I never did figure it out.

I tried your link and only get 2/3 of the map, sometime I have the same problem opening up my saved maps. Why is this?
