Dodging Butterflies In Hell's Canyon

I couldn't stand the thought of working today so I went riding instead.
Here's some snapshots from the ride.
We're headed into those mountains and down into one of the deepest canyons in the PNW.
Below Brownlee Dam. Some of you have been here during a WCRM .x meet. Everything is so green and pretty.
I've never seen snow up there in May. That snow is crucial for hydroelectric power generation for the region. There are 3 dams on this section of the Snake River; Brownlee, Oxbow, Hell's Canyon...
We begin the climb up Kleinschmidt Grade. Googling this old road is interesting.
There were many many cat head sized rocks; The stock Scorpions did surprisingly well.
It's gorgeous! The pictures don't do it justice. I needed this.
We're out of the canyon now and I'm trying to find the road to Council, ID.
At this point I still don't know if I can get through the snow. I may have to double back.
I still don't know where I am but who cares.
Horsies!
Dad?
That's all...Oh and I love this 990! It's just perfect for Idaho.

Very nice pics man. I'm very jealous of your bike's ability to go off of the pavement.

Neato! That's some nice looking terrain.
I've ridden through Hell's Canyon a few times, but never on a Dual-Sport trip. That makes me want to take the KLR down there.
Looking up Kleinschmidt Grade didn't provide much for actual location. Just lots of references to the dams.
How about posting some more information on where those roads are so we have a starting point on the maps.?

Nothing too fancy. One can ride from Boise to Emmett and then through Sweet and Ola Idaho to get to Council but there's still too much snow.
Google Ola Idaho to see how they connect. I'm going to try and do this in a few weeks. There's a ton of gravel roads back there and they all connect together eventually. I could spend the summer over there.

Great pics and while I used to hate the looks of the Katooms they are growing on me every day.
And I love the sound; rode with kurtw for a bit and his 640 sounded heavenly and I believe it's a stock pipe.
So many bikes...

Yep, stock supertrapp. They sound much better a better exhaust.
XLR8, Another great reason to get back to that area! Great stuff (again...)!

Yeah me too. When I first gazed upon the "orange contraption" in the Dakar (it didn't finish that year, or the the next
) I thought, "My God, what an ugly thing." And now I have one in the garage. I'm still not sure how it took place it happened so fast.
If KTM can get these ADV bikes completely dialed in and work out the last small (fuel pump & water pump) gremlins, I may have found my bike for life. I like it that much. And the rumor is there will be an 1190 eventually.

Cool, glad you liked them. If we ever have another WCRM .X meet in Baker City, OR we can ride down in Hells Canyon where that pic was taken. It's a wonderful place.
