I learned a lot about beemers this weekend...

They can't go around corners over 40mph...or they fall over.

They can't go over 60mph in a straight line...or they fall over.

If the rider even thinks there's the slightest bit of gravel in a turn...they fall over.

They can't stop...or they fall over.

They can't start up...or they fall over.

They can't shut off...or they fall over.

You can't look at them...or they fall over.

all in jest of course...

I'm sure there were a few competent riders visiting....but man o man did I see a lot of bikes on their sides this weekend.  Maybe bmw needs to come up with an automatic kick stand.  Also saw four different groups along the road side with a bike torn apart tryin to get the sucker to run....one harley, 3 beemers.

Well, I made it to Houghton and I did see a lot of BMW's but I didn't spend alot of time there. I did have a great ride! 1219mi. since Fri. at 6pm and made it home by 4:30 today with a bit of rain thown in. I rode up through WI on state highway 35 to Superior and then along the Lake Superior shore line through Bayfield, Washburn, Ashland, and Hurley then into MI and went through Silver City, Ontonagon, and up to Houghton then back home. The scenery is much different than the flooded fields here in IA, Soooo many trees and more deer too!!! I got quite close to a couple, they just don't know how to read those deer crossing signs do they!!

BMW ralleys are interesting.  Lots of electrical issues from the guys with the 10 year old bikes with 150k+ miles on them.  And many would tell you that's only "middle aged" at that point.  Any bike with that many miles is prone to electrical gremlins from wire looms that have gotten chaffed from years of vibration.  You still see plenty of Airheads and early 80's K bikes at these events. They come out of the woodwork.  I've seen a lot of sketchy riders that stubbornly refuse ot quit riding even though their balance and strength may have left them.  I've also met guys in their mid 30's that can rail an 800lb LT around corners leaving a trail of sparks from the centerstand.

I'm headed up to the Northern LP tommorrow afternoon stopping in Chicagoland the first night.  hopefully the weather is nice most of the time.  Other than the flooded rivers, the weather has been awesome the last week here.  I can't remember the last time I saw so much blue sky.  I love being near the great plains some times.  I rarely saw weather like this when I lived in Michigan.
