I like the Lightning Long, but I want a XB9.

How hard would it be to put the long tail section on a 9?

Is there a Buell 'salvage yard' that will/might have a used long tail section?

I'd also like to put a Firebolt fairing on it...

What makes the XB chassis a "Long" is not in the tailsection but in the main frame spars.  It is longer there.  You would have to get a Lightning Long chassis and bolt the 903cc VTwin in it.

Why would you want to do that when the 1203cc has much more to offer?

Cheapest way would be to put a 9 short motor in a second hand long.  Like Rogue says its different frame, forks, swingarm ...  In fact there is more different than the same.

The 9 is a sweet motor.  Not the torque of the 12 but smoother and revs nicely.  I could see that as a desirable combination.
