Need a little help for my Bandit...

Okay, so I was riding (2000 Suzuki Bandit/39,xxx miles) to work the other day (9 miles one way) and about 1/3 of the way the bike just dies.  Like someone hit the kill switch, it just shuts off.  Pull over to the side of the road, wait a few seconds, put it in neutral and it starts right back up.  About 2/3 of the way to work and, blammo, same thing.

Coming home, same exact thing happens.  

Any ideas on the culprit?  Is this a reg./rectifier issue?  Any Bandit owners ever have the same thing happen?

+1 So many Bandit owners with so many miles on 'em, I'm sure someone's had pretty much any problem you can think of.  My guess is something's loose.

Could be a clogged fuel filter. When was the last time you replaced it?

That's one of the things I'm going to look at when I get home from work today.  But... it is a very abrupt off, no stumbling, etc.  I'm thinking something electrical.  Probably a good time to replace the fuel filter anyways though...

The fuel filter is part of the petcock assembly and is certainly worth a look, but a clogged filter would cause bad running at all times.

Check the sidestand cut out switch. Strangely enough, it can get gunked up with chain lube.

Well I haven't had this problem on my bandit, but I did have something VERY similar on my old Yamaha XS400. I'd be riding and out of the blue the bike shut down. What tipped me off to the eventual problem was I noticed the lights slightly dimming a bit(riding at night) prior to shut off.

I tracked it down to an electrical short. Luckily it was an easy fix. Take a look at your major electrical connection points to see that they're all alright.

I'm no mechanical wizard so if it is something mechanical I'd be the last one to figure it out.
