Looks like the 1125R's performance is capable of hangin' with the big boys. Clap

This bike has been doing a great job on the tracks.  3rd place in Steve's first race on the 1125R, beating every GSXR in the field.  Impressive!  Hope the press starts recognizing it.

Cheers all,

It is also surprising the CBR1000 managed only 15th.

I hope Steve has a good year!

The new CBR1000 is just piling up on the showroom floors at my local dealerships. Are these bikes selling at all?  Looks just too bland for most peeps?

I have a bud who has a brand new 1000RR, let me ride it.  Interesting that a bike so fast can feel so vanilla.  (Yawn)

I feel that way about quite a few of the Big Four offerings.  Competent as hell, but no personality...

That's kind of easy if the top Suzuki guys crash into each other in the second-to-last lap...

That's not that surprising when you realize the only CBR is in the hands of a rider in her first pro season. And that there's no Honda factory team.

Read my whole story here.

BTW, Steve is quoted as saying the Buell only has 120 horses but it showed 134 on the mandatory dyno run after the race. Jordan's Kawi had 173, well under the class limit of 185.

It's never 'easy' but it is certainly why the Buell made the podium in this race.  It doesn't, however, take away from the amazing performance.  According to Roadracing World's article the Buell team had only had the bikes for a week prior to the race and had to run a stock rear tire.  Slicks might of helped?  It is also amazing that a bike with an approximate 40HP disadvantage was able to pass Martin in lap 19 and hold him off for the last lap of the race.

I would have still been excited about this race even if the Buell would have finished 7th, as Steve and Martin were in 7th and 8th for a good part of the race, in the Buell's debut Superbike Race.  The Buell also finished 3rd and 5th in the Thunder class.

Cheers,
Ron

What do you all think about the turn signal mirrors on the 1125R? I'm considering a set for my Z750S just to clean it up a bit, I hear they are a direct bolt on for the Z.

You obviously have spent too much time in MotoGP.  Rolleyes

I just finished reading a magazine article that stated it is 160hp, weighs 367 lbs dry, had wicked midrange, was not as refined as the 2008 kawasaki (!!!) and wheelied easily in the first three gears. This bike is down 20 lbs wet, but up 50 HP from the 900 Fireblade circa. 1993. That sounds like it has a wee bit of character, but I could be wrong.

(Yawn)

I can only assume the new  Idle Air Control Valve, Ignition Interrupt Control (to reduce driveline lash), FI advances, the HESD steering stabilizer, and slipper clutch, prolly make it seem more manageable than it really is, since it seems to have improved upon most of the negatives that have been plaguing the bike for the last 5 years.

Edit: Back on topic, I hope the Buell does well, and Corbeau thanks for the link I am three years behind for Cdn SB.

Not at true comparison
The Pro Kawi and Suzuki teams were running stock exhausts due to noise restrictions in place at the Calabogie track (and yes they were pissed about it).

The Buells definitely were not, I can personally verify that since I marshaled the whole weekend. I was literally counting the corners on the track when they were running.

Busy day on Sunday, the 600 amateurs could not get round the track for more than a lap or two before red flagging, we had re three starts on that one, oh and got to meet Brett McCormick in person when he highsided his ZX-10 in my corner during the superbike race (rider ok bike is toast).

I stand corrected then!

Also, Bug R thanks for the inside info about the race. I was unaware of the noise issue.

And, exactly, why would this not be a true comparison?  Am I missing something?  The Buell still had an approximate 40HP disadvantage.  Dynos are run on the bikes as raced.

It's a pretty tight and technical track so torque more important than horsepower and the rider makes the biggest difference of all, Szokes once out in front quickly pulled and held a 5 sec lead for the win.
Steve Crevier made an amazing (Brave) pass on the last lap to get the fourth place

Jordan Szokes tech mentioned they lost 20% off the top end while Steve Crevier bike was in full race trim, On a more open track like Shannonville or Mosport the HP difference is going to make it difficult for the Buells to stay in touch.

In theory, BugR, Crevier's bike was in full race trim, but you may expect the Buell wrenches to get a few ponies out of this engine by the time, say, Mosport comes around. Which was, up to a week ago, still brand-spanking new to them. A bit of porting, a bit of polishing...

Crevier's bike dyno'd 134 HP post-race.  Those are stock numbers.  It also was the heaviest.  The credit goes to a great handling bike, and an awesome display of riding.  Buell's race spec motor was not ready in time for this race.  Bad Weather Bikers has the specifics in their 1125r forum.

So what other excuses can people come up with to downplay the 1125R's performance?

yeah!  from what i've heard, what's even more amazing is that the Buells were running on only 2 cylinders for the ENTIRE race!
