I went to NAPA the other day for some parts and went to leave and my S3 wouldn't start. I got it jumped and headed home. Pulled the seat and hooked up my DVOM and showed no output at 4K, just
battery voltage that was down to 12.1V. My trickle charger had it charged to 13.2 this morning so I grabbed the service manual to do some testing and WTF, it has no specs for checking the stator windings or rectifier/regulator.
I had continuity between all 3 yellow stator wires, and no continuity between each wire and ground so I think the stator is ok. Those 3 yellow wires coming out of the R/R I think is the diodes and they show
continuity one way, but not the other to the red output wire. So, I think the regulator circuit is bad. Can someone tell me how that part of the R/R get's checked? Also, I checked BikeBandit.com for the price on a R/R at $300. Please tell me there is a cheaper place to get one if needed  Crazy
Of course the bike is just 2 months out of warrenty, but I'll stop by the dealer to see if they will help out on this and check on any factory recalls. Thanks for your help.

 Regards, Don

If it turns out you need one, I have a new spare R/R for a 1050 Sprint (they're the same part, I think) I'd let it go for $250, shipped via US Mail.  I'll FedEx/UPS if you want to make up the difference.

I got a new one when somebody vandalized my bike- they broke off one of the cooling fins.  Insurance covered the new part, but I never put it on.  The old one works great.

That's enough to drive somebody nuts!!  Crazy Maybe if you swing them a deal like you'll pay for the part if they'll do the labor since it's just out of warranty.

Dood, interesting bike. Did you customize it yourself, or was it all f*cked up when you bought it?

Didn't mean to leave you guy's hanging so long. The local dealer took about a week to get a hold of Triumph. They said they would cover the repair, and it ended up being a bad stator winding. I checked those windings for continuity, but forgot to check them for AC output while running. A very good charging system diagnosis chart can be found here.
http://www.electrosport.com/technical-resources/library/diagnosis/fault-finding-guide.php

This place also has R/R's and stators available at good prices.

But this is all probably moot as the bike has been sitting under water for the last 7 days in the local flood. If I can get it going in an hour like I did my old KZ650 after it got swamped I'll be very suprised.
I'm heading out on a search and rescue mission for the bikes this afternoon.

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it.
