I don't know much about Princeton,  but when we stayed in Penticton during the inaugural run,  the Apex resort hostel was great.   So deserted we all had our own rooms.   Beside the road up to the hostel is AWESOME !!!!  Darrel stayed there during the 2nd run just for the ride up.   An added bonus is while it can be really hot there at that time,  the resort is usually cool.

Did I mention the road up there being amazing fun?

If I remember correctly (which is rarely the case these days), in 2004 the Apex told us that there would not be any food available on site so most of us stayed in town.   A few people stayed at the resort and they actually served dinner.   The rest of us ate at the microbrewery with good food and bad service.

I think we stayed at the 'Y' hostel in Banff.   It was just south across the river from the main part of town; maybe Mountain Avenue?   I stayed two nights.  First night in the dorm and second night in a private room after almost everyone else headed home.   Both options were priced very reasonably and the staff there was great.

I believe the owner of the Grand and the owner of the Hume are one of the same.

He rides a GS

I did not know that.  I've met the owner of the Grand, just can't recall his name...a friend of mine knows him, though.  And while he might own a GS, I think he was gifted a Triumph at one time because of his hosting of the RAT Raids...dunno, just rumour...

I've been on that road as well and it is amazing. The plan is not set in stone... let us look into this option further... (calling for local help here!)

I live in Penticton, so if the plan is to change the stop over from Princeton to Penticton let me know and I will search out any info needed. Unfortunately I can't commit to do the Banff run just yet because of the holiday situation and the crazy shift I have at work .   Crazy  I definately would like to do this run!!

Hey Kids:

I received a reply from Ryan at the Hume, and here goes....

Hi Barry. Thanks for the email and interest in staying/eating at the Hume. We'd love to have you guys.  Just to let you know that September 8th/07 is our annual Queen City Cruise Car Show. I'm sure the riders would love to take that in and there's always a big rooftop party on the parkade that I put on with a full band which is a lot of fun.

The town does fill up so it would be best for people to make reservations as soon as possible.

The rates would be as follows:

One person / one bed - $99 + tax
Two people / one bed - $109 + tax
Two people / two beds - $119 + tax

All rates include a full hot breakfast in the morning.  We could definately do a dinner in the pub or in a private banquet room of your choice.

Give me a call at (250) 352-5331 if you had any questions.

Thanks Barry,

Ryan Martin

I stayed at Apex in 2004 and it was awesome, there was only 3 of us so we each got our own rooms and we did get dinner in the restaurant up there.

I'll get a hold of Apex Resorts and see what they have to offer us.

It was the 1st run that we stayed there.  All six of us.

The "Y" in Banff was for the YWCA.  OK rooms, cheap price.  Also home of the best value in breakfast in Banff.   I is a good place to stay as it's withing easy walking distance to the fun parts of town.  Plus it's about $100.00/night cheaper than most of the motels.

For those of you who have an extra day or two,  a ride to Jasper isn't to be missed.  Probably the most scenic highway in Alberta

I will likely join the ride in Penticton and would also be happy to finish off with a fast trip through Kanaskis along Highway 40 in Alberta Inlove  I actually prefer that to the Jasper Parkway.

Let me know if I can do any leg work re the Nelson portion planning as well.
