Hey Fella's,

My 97 yzf 1000 that I picked up in March came with a full D&D system. It's pretty loud. I like it because people sure do hear me, but I would like to make it quieter because it's too loud in neighborhoods and in town. I did a little research on the web and couldn't find anything that I could do besides swap out for a quieter system. I was thinking about some kind of baffles, but I have no idea how that would work out. It would be cool if I could put something inside the pipe for in the town and removing it on the highway. Probably more fantasy that a reality.  Headscratch

Thanks in advance

Being a carbed bike it will be difficult to make any substantial change to the exhaust without re-jetting, assuming it's jetted properly for the current exhaust.  You could try re-packing the muffler.

Or just put a potato in it (joking)

I may die with nothing to show for it but there will be a heck of a garage sale.

I have a Muzzy system on my FJR. When I got it it was much too loud. I repacked the muffler as tightly as I could with Hindle packing, which is a woven material that comes on a roll. It quited it down quite a bit. After riding for a year (20k miles) with the new packing it seems even quiter now than after I first packed it.

I heard somewhere that Hindle packing is really crap Sad

I have a Hindle pipe on my bike, which is also pretty loud....luckily, Hindle makes a "stealth" version of the same pipe, and you can order the stealth core to fit into the pipe, plus a seperate extra silencer. I have ordered both of those...lets see how well they work!

Or maybe your hearing has been damaged from all the noise?
