January 13 is Hockey Day in Canada. Though not a holiday as such, it is a day to celebrate our most popular sport. Not national sport mind as that is Lacrosse. This year the day long telecast on CBC eminates from Nelson BC. Nelson is excited as is the whole region. Hockey is big here and has an amazing history as Trail managed to send teams to the World Championships and win in 1949 and 1961.

The 6 Canadian teams in the NHL all have been scheduled to play and each game will be televised.

So my fellow Canucklestanians ... how will you celebrate ... drum roll ...the institution that makes us glad to be Canadian ...... Hockey Day in Canada !!! ????  Inlove

Bigok  On that note, have you been watching "Road Hockey Rumble" on OLN? last night was Trail vs Fruitville, what a hoot, although I think it was fixed as Trail has never lost to Fruitville before. Only bad part was that most guys I know where not playing but where the old guys standing around giving and advice Lol

Everyday is Hockey Day in Canada. Friday January 5th did it for me. Shinny in the morning then to the bar that sponsors my men's league to watch the juniors(  Bigok ) brief rest and then out for a pick-up game at venerable George Bell Arena. Home for a late dinner.

Sid The Kid. Bigok

In order to see a  game  with two NHL teams in person I'm looking at arranging a charter bus trip to Pittsburgh( think Sid, Staal, Malkin...) to see Atlanta ( think Kovalchuk, Kozlov Hossa..... ) March 24th. Mostly with guys I play hockey with but all maniacs welcome. Hotel bus and good ticket for about $260.00, hardly more than cabfare and ticket to the ACC.  Razz If interested PM.

Right On!!!

If my daughter and son weren't both away at University we would play some outdoor shinny then have some brown pops ( or more likely green ) in honour of the 100,000 kms or so we spent together in the car during their minor hockey days. Now if they would make it a national holiday perhaps they could come home for a long week-end Wink

Rolleyes  Oh well I will get about 15 minutes more sleep than on a work day Thumbsup

Hello out there, were on the air
it's hockey night tonight!
The tension grows,
the whistle blows,
and the puck goes down the ice.
The goalie jumps,
and and the players bump,
and the fans all go insane.
Someone roars:
"Bobby Scores!"
At the good old hockey game!

Oh!
The good old hockey game!
Its the best game you can name!
And the best game you can name,
is the good old hockey game!

It is on my to do list - I think it is $400.00 for the day- replace the cup with me in that photo
that would make my day!

PS- Orr's knee's don't look bad - Come on big guy get out there the Bruins need help. Bigsmile

I know what's going on with the Bobby Orr picture.  He was just jealous of the famous Acadian Rider having a picture with Don Cherry and he had to do the same.   Bigok

If you want to know, the picture was taken in the Montreal Sheraton in the spring of 1993 after the first game of the Stanley Cup final between the Habs and L.A. Kings of Gretzky and Co.

It just so happens that I saw two games in that series.  The 2nd game and 5th which was the game where the Habs won the cup.  Those of you who followed the series will remember that the 2nd game was the one where McSorley was found to have an illegal stick and with the ensuing penalty, the Canadiens tied the game in the last minute and the rest is history.   Lol

Canucks finally have a goalie.

I was a Leaf fan from 1966 - 1983. After the Sittler, McDonald era ended ... I gave up.

The rumour here is that Ferguson is going to do Sundin a favour and pull a Ray Bourque. I sure hope Mats wins a cup somewhere. He has more than paid his dues.

I have no sympathy for the Leafs organization - They make millions upon millions from the dumbed down masses called Leaf fans - or stolen title of Leaf Nation- ( Raider nation)
The Leaf fan will blindly buy paraphernalia and over priced tickets, continue to cheer and hope
that yet again this will be "our " year. Yet the Leafs year after year ( 40 and counting) continue to wallow in mediocrity. "It's all about the money boys!" The teachers need to keep that pension phatt.

Sundin- A floater and an opportunist, but I hope he gets his trade. The Leafs do owe him that much for carrying the team to no where all these years.
