Hang in there Slonishku!!

Just think of what a great story all of this is going to make when you complete the rally! Something about doing the ride on a Rat (looking) RE5 will have people talking more than doing the ride on what would appear to be a completely restored bike.

I think Slonishku is just trying to make sure he has the hopeless class nailed down.  Bigok

Good luck Slonishku, we're all pulling for ya.  Thumbsup

The only reason I'm using HIDs and LEDs is to try to free up enough electrical capacity to make occasional use of a low wattage heated jacket (Gerbings Warm 'n' Safe 65w jacket) and my Garmin 378 w/ XM. I'm going pretty low key (for the IBR) on the farkles.

Thanks for all the well-wishes. I'm pulling another big session tonight. I'll have it together, just a matter of how much (or little) saddle time I'll have on it pre-rally. I'm going to finish the rally one way or another.

During the rally, I'll have a SPOT tracker running, and I'll have my wife post occasional updates. If the RE5 goes kaput mid rally, I'll likely be begging for help here!

Alex I will be testing a pair of these for the run west to east before the rally http://visionxusa.com/led/S1100/
I tried them up against a pair of stock Hella FF50's the other night and they are better and at only 10watt per unit they would be great to amp short vehicles.

I have a pair of Hella FF50's with Philips +80 Power extreme globes in them on my bike now, so will just do a swap for the run across the country to see how they go.

Davo,

Those look pretty nice, but probably out of my price range for the rally. I'm pretty much tapped out on spare funds these days! Still, I'm eager to hear how they perform. If adequately bright, LEDs would be awesome.

Checkpoint two will be in Santa Ana, CA on Sunday August 30. That should be the big one for maintenance. Oil change, wheel swap, and anything else that comes up.

My wife will be bringing a set of fresh wheels, final leg clothes and supplies, and oil changing gear to me there.

I'm hoping to find someone with experience with bikes of similar configuration and vintage who'd like to help with the wheel swap, oil change, and giving the bike a once over with eyes less weary than mine. Is anyone here potentially interested?

Great news- I just did an emergency carb transplant, and the rally bike is running beautifully! Of course it wouldn't be an RE5 if another problem didn't pop up. In this case, an apparetly transmission related knock on the shaft behind the front chain sprocket. More later- it's after midnight and I'm beat.

Mate although I have no experience with the bike I have no servicing etc due at #2 so I will look for you and at least add support.
I am doing my oil and tires #1 while I am fresher.

Paypal thingie? How do I do that?

Of course, if anyone has any gear they'd like to have certified as "Rally Tested and Slonishku Approved", let me know!  Bigsmile

There's a rumor that I might have a wee passenger for the Rally, too...

Actually, I'm doing pretty well gear wise. The only things I really have left to get are a Laminar Lip for the fairing (that $85.00 is hard to bite down on right now), boots, a dry bag, and a replacement stereo input cord for the J&M CB (mine got away from me and the stereo jack sat against the header of the Bandit just long enough to turn it into art). I'm sure I'm forgetting something huge.
