Yup, here's a quote from Warchild:
The first Suzuki Rotary RE-5 is out of the rally.... it belongs to Barry Bertram, and it's the one that looked to be in better condition of the two RE-5's!    Don't know the specifics of the failure, but he appears down and out somewhere in West Palm Beach FL area.

It looks like Alex's wife taking his bike to the RE5 expert in Memphis is paying off.  Go Alex and Chili!  Chili

Barry's twin brother (the BMW mechanic) was looking at an oil leak in the parking garage on Sunday.  He thought it was a seal somewhere near the front sprocket.  There were signs of oil smearing down the side.  There was nothing really he could do about it so he cleaned it up and buttoned it back together.  His comment was "Hey, it only has to last 11,000 miles."  Lol

So I guess you can say Alex won and can lay official claim to the Rider #1 label.  That was pretty neat.

It looks like he made it to the checkpoint! Just saw a pic over on the FJR forum. Apparently had a header problem. It's now fixed and he's done an oil change. (sorry if this now old news)

Yup. He lost 3 of the four bolt holding the headers on, MacGyver and mxvet57 worked some magic with safety wire and bubblegum.

+ A oil change and a new power outlet was done / installed.

Uhhh yeah...   just remember my warranty :

30 seconds or 30 feet Bigok

Seriously, if I had the tools to do a helicoil I would of because the threads in two of the exhaust port bosses were jacked up by loose bolts beating up the threads.  Too bad JB weld has this disclaimer or it would of been a possible solution:

Not recommended for use on manifolds, exhaust systems, and other engine components which normally operate at temperatures above 500° F.

Since the two header pipes angle down in a Y shape, I just made a figure 8 wrap around the two pipes.  I cinched it tight and then did a bundle wrap at the center to tighten the wires.  It's now only 90 db loud instead of 120 db, blow your earplugs out, loud.  I am worried about how the change in backpressure from the exhaust leaks will affect the carb and cause a possible lean out condition.  Only 9--- miles to go!
