Wow, what a day.  While working yesterday, we became aware that a storm of magnificent proportions was going to come thru around dinnertime.  I got off work at 4:30, planning on beating it home.  HAH!  My 11 mile ride was, ummm, interesting?  I got about halfway home and the storm wall hit.  70-80 mile an hour winds and water by firehose proportions.  I was headed directly into it, so it wasn't *that* bad.    Passing the initial impact, the storm lessened quickly, but left massive amounts of trees and powerlines down in the whole area.  Our power's been out for ~18 hours now, but we has a large generator for backup.    The cable was out for about 12 hours.  To top it all off, after I get home and get rid of the gear, I walk in the house and promptly hear a tornado.  We got all the family down the basement and it missed us, but not by much.  About 1/2 mile away, there are some really tore up forest areas.

The good news is the recent Aerostich Roadcrafter and Sidi boot purchases exceeded expectations.  I stripped the gear off to find totally dry clothes underneath.  Kudos to them for a great product.

Now it's time to fire up the chain saw and start hacking away at the crap littering the yard.  Eeesh!

We really got hit (again) in SW Wisconsin. 8 inches total Sat & Sun. 99 road closures in Vernon County alone. I was saving today and tomorrow for a good long ride, perhaps an overnighter, but now I don't even know if there's an open road out of the area. They were just gettin the damage from last August repaired, and now it's back to square one, with more widespread road washouts and mudslides. Even if there's a way out, somehow it doesn't feel right to be out joyriding when many folks are hurting.

I was called away from a Vintage Motorcycle show in Hickory Corners to help bring servers back online after our mid-range upgrade. This was before three and they were in a hurry, so I set a course for east and pressed the hyperspace button on my bike. I made it in to our data center in time to park the bike before the storm.

After about an hour noodling with servers I went home only to see the devastation, first from the highway and then in the neighborhood. It was quite startling. My corner grocery was out of power and so is my side of town. A very thick cable blocks my street still today.  

I have couple of solar panels, a charge controller for batteries and an inverter. This is enough to bring up my DSL modem, and my wireless router, two laptops and a CF lamp. I have a feeling that tonight we will be grilling. I am just glad that my hot water heater does not need AC.

Our power company is estimating tomorrow night by 2300 hours. The worst thing is my G/F cannot get her bike out of the garage untill we are back on the juice. The funny thing is we seem to be more relaxed not having all the distractions that come with the electrons.

and shop. It got about 3' deep upstairs so it looks
like I'm going to learn the fine art of hanging drywall  
 Unfortunately all the bikes got swamped. I'm going to try
for a search and rescue mission this afternoon.

Holy flock, boss.  Sorry to see that.  I was lamenting the fact that my weekend ride down south was getting cancelled due to rain, but that just pales in comparison.  Hope everything works out and the house is repairable.

 I live right on the river. It's like living in the campground when it's not flooding. Plan A is to lift it 5' and clean it up.
 I got all the bikes and the truck over to Mom's today. Got the KDX going in 45 min. 2 strokes rock
Got the ZR7S going also, but it needs 1 more oil chg. so I'll get a filter tomorrow. After being under 5 days it had no water in the gas tank and didn't even need to chg. the battery. Fookin amazing.
