I know I have been hard on the Ducati brand on this message board but I must say that the new 1098 DUC is an impressive machine and the price is coming down to Reality too!

Kudos for Ducati for coming out with the 1098 at a very reasonable price.

I LOVE the colors of the Tricolore http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my2007/ModelPage.jhtml?family=Superbike&model=SBK1098STRICOLORE-07  it's a shame it is a track only bike.  Maybe they'll let that color scheme go on some street bikes?  I don't get the shiny strip on the tank though.

Matches the "racing gold" frame and wheels.  It does seem to be an odd place for a stripe though.  Shrug

Sweet looking bike!. After reading what you wrote about it being "track only" I noticed the turn signals and license plate mount. From what I read, the exhaust kit that is supplied with the bike is track legal only but the bike is street legal.

"Intended for track use only, a power-increasing 102 dB Termignoni racing muffler kit with dedicated ECU is supplied with the bike".

The Tri-Colore is street legal as well, as someone was wondering.

And the vertical gold stripe on the tank is supposedly a throwback to the days when the Duc race bikes had a window in the tank to check fuel levels.  Not
real big on the stripe personally

Thanks. On the website...where are the prices? I like the ST3 but I didn't see a price. It's probably right in front of me and I'll feel like a dumbass for asking but....

Not with 102dB race cans, it's not.

That doesn't mean people won't ride it on the street anyway.

Aren't most insurance companies jacking rates to astronomical levels for bikes in excess of 999cc's?

Ducati owners understand that ignorance spawns malevolence, and only hope that eventually detractors finally come round as they mature in their motorcycling journey, from wanting little more than "bang for the buck" to wanting "something more." Sounds like you've started to open-up a bit, and have come somewhat in touch with that all elusive and oft mocked by those who cannot or will not see, "soul/character" that Ducatis offer in spades. Or, you simply like the bike 'cuz it's damn hot!! In either case, your right. Smile

I think the best looking Ducati is the Sport 1000s: red with white graphics. If I had the cash, and knew the bike could be made comfortable, that's the "other" Ducati I'd buy since there's no replacing my ST3. The 1098 is gorgeous, fast, competent, and highly desirable, but that Sport 1000s really speaks to me with its retro styling, and with approx 95 HP and 420lbs, would be no slouch. However, since I can only afford one, there's no better Ducati for me than my ST3 since it fulfills so many of my needs and desires.

Yeah, the new 1098 is hot looking no doubt.  It will be interesting to see the test write-ups, etc.

Wonder how the reliability and maintenance is gonna be on the 1098.
