A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.

Richland County had as many as 50 roads closed at one point.  That was Monday.  The Kickapoo River was supposed to peak Wed., but we had several inches of rain in the area today again.  LaValle, LaFarge, Viola, Ontario, Gays Mills, Soldiers Grove, Spring Green all have parts of their communities underwater.  Avoca was being evacuated tonight.  The Wisconsin has not yet hit peak, nor the Miss.  I understand the flooding on the Turkey River (Iowa across from Cassville Ferry, which is not running) was also quite extreme.  Hwy 14, 23, 58, 80, 60 -- all have had portions closed, or continue to be closed.  Secondary (county roads) will certainly be cleaned up at a slower pace.  Earlier tonight (Thurs) County A was the only road open into Lancaster.  Conditions can deteriorate pretty quickly.

My observation is that the road conditions are no worse than they were after last falls flooding.  It's actually pretty amazing to see the scale of the flooding, which is a reason to ride here in itself.  Probably a bit more caution than normal watching for surface conditions, debris, etc.  Expect to do some turning around, and there are going to be a few places you just can't get to.

Vernon county had a large list of road closures including Wildcat, and sections of P. I had a route planned for this Sunday and have rerouted to avoid the entire area since 75% or more of the roads on the route were still closed on Tuesday and there was potential for severe rains in the area at that time.

An updated list of road closures and map from yesterday can be found at http://www.co.vernon.wi.gov/flood08/index.htm. For areas where the Sheriff's departments are not putting road closure information on the Internet, you can call the Sheriff's department and ask for a list of closures. North of I90, the response from the ones I called was, "no road closures".

Checking road conditions will require me to hold my breath and duck under the rivers here.

In SE Wisconsin, we got another 3 - 5" of rain last night. Crazy

Flood waters are not going to crest for another 12 - 24 hours, as the surface runoff is still making it's way from the waterlogged fields to the engorged waterways.

Strongly encourage you to pick another weekend, or another destination...unless you are equipped with knobbies and want to go searching for fordable passages.  Now's not the time for strafing runs in the twisties here. Sad
