07 Norge (the faster red one)

Ignore
« on: June 12, 2008, 09:17:35 PM »

After much searching, reading and mental gymnastics, I want a Norge,  Inlove  but, it's got to be RED.  So far I've found 3 used silver ones but nary a red one in sight.  Anyone out there have a lead on a used one, maybe thinking about selling for whatever reason or maybe know of a smokin' deal on a leftover?

I've called 7-8 CA dealers, only one has indicated he'll consider an offer on a new red one but even if he comes down, I'm still looking at around $13k and that is really pushing the budget too far.  So anyone know a friend, neighbor or fellow rider thinking about selling?

Thanks,
Roger

Check out www.motointernational.com  in Seatle. They can't list the price on the web anymore because of Guzzi corporate policy, but they had 07's listed for $11,900 before setup, which I would consider a great deal, especially since they are considered one of the best Guzzi dealers in the country.
Speakers in Ohio(www.speakers-cycles.com) also has 2 07 red Norges listed. I purchased my Norge from Speakers & was very pleased with the service, but Moto International is much closer to you so I would call them. I looked for a long time before buying mine & never came across any used red ones, only silver. No disrespect to the silver Norge owners, but if it's Italian it has to be Red. Besides, chicks dig the red  Bigok

Make sure that if you buy the bike out of state, it is CA legal.  If not you will not be able to get it registered (unless it has more than 7500 miles on it).

There's a new multi-dealership that recently opened in Pembroke Pines, FLA; they sell Kawi's, M-G's & Aprillias. I was there 2 weeks back & they had a good stock of M-G's on the floor, several Norge's included. If memory serves me correctly, they had several colors available. Might want to check out their site & give them a call:  http://pineskawasaki.com/Default.asp

Thanks for all the input and help!  According to several people, all the Norges are 50-state legal so should be good in that respect.

I'd prefer to stay west of the Rockies for this purchase, don't mind a fly-ride home deal but can't afford too much vacation time.  Is this fun or what.   Bigsmile

Easy way to confirm this is to have someone who owns a Norge that bought it in a state other than CA to look at the emmisions sticker.  If it includes CA, then they are 50 state legal.

Well, had a lead on a used red one but seller decided to keep it instead so although disapointed, I figure it speaks well for the bike, so the search continues.

Did find a demo with 400 miles on it but not sure how I feel about buying one, kinda prefer to break it in my way plus it was only $300 less than I had found a new one for.

Been to v11/lemans, and they do seem nice but was curious if the Norge folks spend much time there since that is my focus right now, trying to learn all I can.

Agree with Michael on the forums.  As far as the lowers I think it is more related to install and removal of the panels.  I've had no issues with anything in 12,000 miles.  Well one thing.  I had the bumper for the centerstand cut down a bit further cause the stand was dragging in the really tight stuff at speed.  Cutting down the rubber bumper stop fixed that.

I just ordered a silver Norge from Moto International. I pick it up on Saturday! They had a red seat on it, from a 1200s, and i told them to keep it on. It looks sweet with a red seat and silver body. I got a GREAT deal on it $11999! I am curious about the reported issues with center stand dragging. Is this common?

What is their reputation like regarding proper set-up?  I test rode a Norge at a local dealer and it was obvious from the way it ran and was assembled that is was poorly done.  Came away unimpressed.  Since I would be buying from out of the area, I won't be able to go back if there are issues.

Congrats on the new ride.  The Norge is capable of excellent handling so dragging the center stand is pretty easy to do.  Firm up the rear preload and shave down the rubber bump stop for the centerstand and you should be good to go.

Umm, my experience with them has been horrible but maybe things have changed...
A couple of years ago my g/f took a test ride on an Aprilia Mojito scooter that they had.  While she was on the ride, the owner of the shop bad mouthed my local LA Vespa dealer saying how shoddy their work was.  Well.. next thing I see is my g/f walking up the street, sans scooter.  It had broken down.  Turns out the shop monkey had no properly attached the spark plug cap and it had come loose...

Forgot to raise that question  Embarassment, was more concerned that it didn't surge and was assured it didn't.  He used to ride an RT1150 like me and knew what I was worried about.  I guess I could walk away if it turned out to be a turkey.

Enjoy the Norge.

His story is that his he has a bad back and cannot get used to the Norge's position.  How do you ever really know what someone's reasons are though.   Shrug  I know some bikes I've had in the past caused me pain no matter what I tried so it's plausible.

I've been debating that exact question about scenic vs slabbing it.  My riding buddy is also encouraging me to take a scenic route back but part of me wants to get it home quickly and give it a good once over before "playing" on it.

Thanks for the reminder to check things over before heading out, I'll add a tire guage to my little travel kit.  What tire pressures seem to be best for this bike?

36/42 on my Breva; tried not to run 18/20 as my buddy did when he rode a new to him Triumph T-Bird back to Bend.   Crazy  What's truly a kick in the pants is we both knew better and both had tire gauges with us.

I say take the scenic as there's no better to learn a bike then riding curves.  You don't have to drag pegs or centerstand prongs to just have an enjoyable ride.

Dood.  Take the scenic route.  A new Guzzi, the coast highway.  You'll learn far more about your bike on that ride than slabbing it. Plus that's what that bike is designed for!
Just check your oil, check your tyres and you'll be fine.  Remember to pack a camera for those scenic shots of your bike and the Pacific Ocean behind it!
September is the perfect time of year for this ride...

There is a red Norge for sale on the MGNOC site.

Thomas

Thanks for the heads up.  Found one this week here on the left coast otherwise would have likely bought that one.  It was on ebay last week and with shipping and not being able to see it first I was reluctant to pursue it.

Just saw this. I'll be test riding a Norge and a V7 Classic on Saturday...

So, what did you think?

Made it home safely with my new toy this Saturday.  Thumbsup Started to go over to the coast but traffic was terrible.  After being stuck on 101 for over an hour I gave up and headed up Hwy 33 thru Ojai.  What a great road, bunch of twisties gave me my first chance to see how the bike really handles.  Played with the rear rebound just a little and then it was great!!  Bigsmile  For the next 3 hours I was treated to curves, hairpins and straights.  Had to slab-it the rest of the way on I-5 but for those 3 hours I had a blast and can tell this bike is going to be a treat.  Taking a 3-day ride on it in a couple of weeks, can't wait!   Inlove

Scrape the centerstand or had the lower fairings crack from the heat, yet?   Lol

Glad you are loving the Norge, they do seem like the next great sport-tourer.  They've had a few glitches (the fairing cracks, there's a recall out on the headlight wiring) but the three people I've talked to who actually have them love the bejabbers out of their Nor-gays (I was told the bike does not rhyme with forge.  They their Norges oodles of cross-country miles.

Hope you have lots and lots of happy tours and don't forget to post pics.  The ups and downs I've had with my Breva have surprisingly not stopped me from looking at a Norge with lusty fingers reaching for my wallet.  Luckily, Ural Ballast Babe is also our Finance Minister or else we'd have a garage full of motorcycles and no retirement monies.   EEK!

Don't have much to compare I'm afraid.  Only other one I test rode was for 10 minutes at the local dealer that didn't seem well prepped.  It's not a smooth as I would like, but not bad enough to put me off.  My last v-twin was an ST3 Duck that was very smooth at freeway speeds. I'll be checking it over in the next few weeks and check for TB sync, I think it might be off just a hair.

Sagerat, how do I post pics?   Embarassment

When you post down at the bottom there's a section marked "Additional Options" on the lower left.

Click and you'll get a menu with a Browse button.  From that go to where you file your pics on your computer and selct the pic you want posted.  There's a size requirement, so you may have to resize your pics.

Hey, if I can do it, any one can.   Bigsmile

By the way, you can remove the lower fairing if you like.  I think it improves the looks of the bike.

I think I agree with you.  Took the pieces off this week and have been looking at it each night  Inlove.  Going back and forth but I think it's cleaner without them.  Thought about adding a Breva chin spoiler and front fender since the fender is all red on the Breva or Sport, can't remember at this moment.  Have seen varied opinions on whether or not it makes difference to perceived heat reflection or better cooling.  Crazy

If you'd like to lower the footpegs a bit, this is a trick setup:

Yup, that bottom section is too sharp/angular IMHO.

Those look very sanitary, mind if I ask the cost and how much ground clearance do you loose?

Yes, they do look great.  I came across them while thinking about getting a Norge - the highish pegs were the only ergonomic thing I didn't like.  I can't tell you about the cornering clearance, but from what I've read the centerstand is going to touch down first anyway.  Pretty sure I read about them on wildguzzi.com but I can't find the post....
