Bummer - though it seems you're pointed in the right direction.
So what was up with the surface? The fluid trail looks fairly narrow. Was there something else up?
When I started reading - and your foreshadowing "typing one handed" I saw the first pic and said - he's using two hands at the start...
The front wheel on the bandit - looks turned a bit more than it should be

So what exactly happened? Brake line wear through or loose? If you dont have full coverage insurance, you could probably recover a few bucks by going over to maximum-suzuki.com and parting out what's left on the Bandit, or selling it outright as a project bike, as long as the frame and motor are good.

Prayer said for a speedy recovery and a happy journey towards another bike for you.
Just curious being on the Parkway, were you going close to the speed limit? Were there many patrol cars seen that day?

Glad to hear that you weren't hurt worse! Hope your recovery is speedy!
Can you tell us what the cause of the crash was? I've reread the thread but could't figure it our.
It seems you were doing a reasonable speed (~45MPH) and when you braked for the mild left hander something in the front brake hydralic system failed and dumped brake fluid on the pavement. Is this correct?
The line of fluid seems to be angling to the right -- but you were turning left?
Were you unable to make the turn at the speed you were going without a front brake???
Did something else (other than the front brake failure) cause the crash?

Take care and heal up my friend. Sheri and I will include you in our prayers.

Sorry to hear about your crash Paul. Heal up quickly!
A pre-farkled low miles Strom would be a worthy replacement for the Bandit. Stone axe reliable, dirt road capable (but not "off road"). Can tour, commute, shred twisties. All good stuff for cheap.

Well it's official...the Bandit is totaled. Now I just have to figure out when I'm going to be able to ride again...and what I'm gonna ride...and convince the wife...
I know at least two people selling good-condition Bandit 1200s (one is a red naked in western Mass, and the other is a silver S-model here in Philly). I can get details, if you're interested.

Just let me know if you decide to go the used Bandit route. The older Bandits are both in good condition, and will probably cost less than half the price of a new 1250, which leaves room in the budget for modifications. Unless, of course, you plan to finance, then the new bike makes more sense. You can't go wrong either way, as far as getting a useful and fun bike.

Heal soon, heal well, and back into the saddle. No worries.
Still, I bet all of us would like to hear you speculate about what happened.
If it causes you discomfort, then don't.
If you can though.
It might be good for you to review it.
It might save one of us.
(Gotta say, you laying on your back with the bike crunched beside you is a graphic I will NOT be sharing with old girl.)

Ouch! Looks like I made out much better... Monday the 16th I was going up the parkway and taking the detour arond the Craggy Gradens rock slide. I was taking NC-80 back up to the Parkway and managed to do this on the very last switch back turn before getting back to the parkway. I was really pissed at my self.

The other possible path is a true DS that will do all, but my heart tells me I may be disappointed by the street performance. My training has always been "the right tool for the job" but my wallet has been more like getting by on a budget...hence the Bandit was an excellent choice at the time of purchase.
A used Buell Ulyssess, Girlie Tiger, Caponord, etc? Maybe even a GS1200? Gives you an off pavement capability without to much compromise of the street and long-haul performance for a reasonable cost...

Volf, I know that turn. Thursday, the wife and I were going up 80 to the BRP, the roads were wet, came to that turn and i figured that I couldn't make it unless I leaned way over. I stopped as the roads were wet and I was 2 up, once stopped, the bike slid back 2-3 feet. I don't think I would have made the turn.
Don't be pissed, it is a wicked turn and it is very slick.
Drive safe.
