Well, the weather channel promised that if we went west, then turned north, that we would miss the  nastiness.  However, it lied to us once again.  Going west in the rain was interesting.  Going north in the rain was interesting until it turned into a deluge and we were forced to stop.  While trying to warm up, we noted that California has fires.  We thought that if we went there, the water we had collected in our boots and gloves would be of service.
We Canucks are a hardy bunch, but this is a bit much!  We are currently at a Flying J in Joplin MO.  Since the buffet is all you can eat, we plan to eat until sleepy, then sleep until hungry.  We will stop this cycle when the red blob passes over.
If someone could send help in the form of Coast Guard rescue swimmers, we would be grateful.
Signed...

Dear, cold and wet in Joplin,

if it's any consolation, the rain i was supposed hit going home Thursday never materialised.  Banana it was sunny and hot (and windy) the whole way home.  Bigsmile

Jimmy and myself are home safe and sound... No wild animals were hurt on any of our rides.

We have found that we are  invisible to the Indiana police.
(maybe jimmy can tell that story)

Left the hotel at 6:08am central time and arrived home @ 3am

It got a little warm in the middle of the day but no rain.

Dear cold and wet in Joplin:

I rode through a torrential downpour in Western Maryland for about 30 minutes.  Couldn't see much more than the pickup truck in front of me.  I would've stayed dry except for the gloves, BUT I now know first-hand what the Aerostich wet crotch problem is.  Water pools there and goes through the zipper.  I need to figure out how to fix that.

DON'T EAT THAT SHIT!!  It's preprocessed frozen crap.  The Flying Joke is not a good deal, and please don't take it as representative of Yank food.

Go down to exit 4 and hit the Petro.  It's not stellar, but it's better than anything you'll get at the J.

In contrast, we hit nothing but blast furnace heat and ferocious winds all the way from Arkansas to Albuquerque, NM.  Then the wind died down.  All in all, in our seven days of riding, the coolest daytime riding we experienced was in AR.  My eyes feel like raisins in my head.

Our first day toward home (Thu) was great---not a drop of rain.
Our second day (Fri) was dry too.
Our third day (Sat)? "GLUG GLUG SPLOOSH GLUG."

It rained all frickin' day long without a break (that was while riding from Eastern KY into WV).

Typical of the old wus I have recently become, I stayed in ES until Sat morning to allow the weather front to move out of my path. Had a totally dry, pleasant ride home.  Bigsmile

Aaahhh.  Too late!  We ate it already!  None of us have suffered ill effects.......yet.  Good thing we managed to make it back to the land of "free" health care.  Now if we do fall ill, we will be taken care of......within a day or two!
We all managed to make it back by Sunday evening.  Weather cleared up about an hour north of Joplin and we dried out and spirits improved.  Made it to Ames Iowa that nite (Des Moines downtown is a wet mess, but the way) and then home the next day in sunny weather.  Dodged a few "isolated" showers on the home stretch, but did not get wet.
It was great to see everyone and to get some fun riding.  Time to plan for next year.

Hehe
Please note that I said "within a day or two".  The advantage to our system is the coverage.  Disadvantage is the wait time.  However, the good news is that the autopsy will be free!
