Random Pics From The National

Here are some of the pictures I took at the national.
Some of the early arrivals.
Getting ready for Sprockets ride on Tuesday morning.
A bit of duct tape repair on David's BMW. Good as new and the rider is unscathed.
Tuesdays lunch stop at the Cliff House Inn.
BBQ dinner at the hotel.
Bench racing and bike gawking at the hotel.
R Doug and 1moreroad.
It was like looking into the sun.
Ducati and J B Weld have the same color scheme. Coincidence?
A small incident while waiting for the ferry at Bull Shoals Lake. This was on Sprockets Wednesday ride.
The group waiting for the ferry.
Ride leader Sprocket at the front.
A quick scenic shot of Bull Shoals Lake after lunch on the Wednesday ride.
That's all I've got. Hope you enjoyed them.

A few more.
Saw this just after getting off I-44 onto MO 19. It's on the original Route 66
Camping at Kettle Campground.
Scenic overlook on Magazine Mountain.
Had to backtrack on the way home due to water over I-80 near Coralville, IA.

Yikes! Those flood waters over I-80 are frightening.
Nice pics!

Not motorcycle-related as well (waiting for Rue to get her pics processed):
The world famous ducks at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. We stayed across the street at the Holiday Inn Express; walked over to check out the quackers.
That little brat in the white & blue striped shirt kept inching closer and closer to the fountain while his parents ignored him (
and the EmCee's polite suggestions that folks keep their distance
). It was obvious he wanted to reach out and grab a duck as it swam past. Finally, to my delight, one duck made a beeline for his hand and pecked at it viciously, causing the kid to retreat tearfully behind the safety of Mom and Dad.

Here's Rue blasting around the final curve of the southern
(dirt & gravel)
stretch of Route 623 north to Burke's Garden:
That road was a hoot, even with the loose cows. Going back next month on my Strom.

On the way back home from the Nationals we stopped in the town of Metropolis, Illinois to check out the 'Giant Superman Statue':
There was a street festival going on - we'd arrived there on a weekend that the town was attempting to set a Guiness World Record for the largest number of
nerds & geeks
people dressed up as Superman. And of course, if you didn't bring a Superman costume there were no lack of places to
buy
one there.
We saw lots of people in costumes - some good, some really bad, all sincere though. Rue got her pic with Wonder Woman and her
chubby little
cherubic little sidekick:
The funniest part was when Rue and I, walking around in our kinda-matching black BMW boots, black First Gear riding pants, black UnderArmor shirts and shades, were approached by some guy who looked us up and down and asked "
So okay - which characters are
you?"

Here's a link to a slideshow of the pics I took at the Barber Motorcycle Museum on my way home from the National. All motorcycle enthusiasts MUST make a trip there to check it out. Just a jaw-dropping display of wonderfully restored vintage bikes, race bikes and modern stuff. It was so worth riding a day of slab to get there from Memphis. Enjoy!

I didn't take as many pictures this time because a) I took a ton of pictures last time I was in ES. b) I was too caught up in riding around aimlessly c) I forgot my camera when I did stop.
Here are a few I did take:
The next few pics are from the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. I visited this big cat rescue the first time the STN National was in Eureka Springs. I went back this time around to make a donation and to pick up a couple of souvenirs.
The box where one of the big cats was "living" in before it was rescued:
Picked up a new friend for the Super Munchkin™
Leaving ES we stopped in for breakfast at the Cruisin' 62 Diner:
My bike is quite the midget next to MacGyver's GS ADV
Popular place for the "cruisin" crowd:
I guess no one wanted to hang out with us in the air conditioning
I think we scared them away
On the way home I wanted to try and ride part of Old Route 66 home. Before we did we stopped in here:
I can't seem to get my camera to cooperate with indoor shots so I wasn't able to get any more pics of the inside.
That's really all I've got.
Ok, one more...
Say Hi Krismark and MacGyver!

I think you missed one of the bikes.
Seriously, I was there too but on my way to ES. I have to agree that it is worth a day of slab.

In lieu of a full ride report, here's a few pictures I took.
No trip of mine would be complete without stopping at a covered bridge in New Brunswick
The slightly cooler temperatures on the Blue Ridge Parkway felt better compared to the exhausting heat down below.
Here's a couple from the BRP"
A highlight of this trip was the Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum. I didn't take as many pictures as Garry but I'll post just a sample to wet the appetite of those who never went.
Remember those 500cc triples
An I-4 meant something different during the early days
Some bikes were displayed unrestored
Because this was a Sunday, there were some car races on the track behind the museum

It was just a coincidence that I stopped in Tupelo MS on one of the nights. Being the birthplace of Elvis, I just had to take some pictures of the house.
Elvis' birthplace. It has all of two rooms.
I went and fetched Elvis at the local shopping mall where he was shopping and he invited me over to his swing. I had a great conversation with him.
He even invited me in the house
Once in Arkansas, I had to deal with the dangerous and crooked roads. Who thought up the idea of having a meet there.
Here's the proof

Once in ES, I took many of the same pictures that have already been posted.
I am always asked what do we do at those meets. My standard reply is that we drink beer and tell lies. Here's Scott (SWriverstone) beer in hand telling a good one.
Everybody was looking at Dred in his birthday suit and finding it funny.
