We'll surely put the week up for vote again.  Hell, it may not even end up in June - though if it's any later in the summer I'm not looking forward to crossing the Plains.  It was brutally hot last time.

Oh, and Dred, if you need anything on the ground at this end, do NOT hesitate to let me know.

I know... lets organize a group soak up at Orvis Hot Springs... Bet the Mrs. would disapprove, since it's clothing optional, but OMG, the water is heaven (and there generally aren't that many patrons at any given time).

Got news for ya, it was brutally hot for most of us heading to the National this year. We routinely saw 100+ degrees going through Az, NM, and Tx. But it's all in the name of fun!

Oh, I know, and I winced reading miles' "eyeball" comment.  But it's SUPPOSED to be brutally hot down there.  But I-80 is not supposed to feel like I-10.

Go North and through South Dakota.

Hmm, we should do a Meet Tour - visit all 4 meet locations on one ride.  Maybe add the regional meet locations too.

I kinda like that notion.  Our own sport-touring Iron Butt rally - Vermont, West Virginia, Kentucky, Eureka Springs, SW Wisconsin, Custer, Montrose, and wherever the R1 types have their WCRM thingie.

I'd never get the time off, but it'd be fun to think about - in a different thread Razz

Yea but June in Colorado could be a hit/miss. I nearly froze coming home Sat night. And one more thing to worry about is flooding if taking the northern route.

I remember wearing a perforated jacket on the Million Dollar Highway.  I remember it vividly.  I remember getting soaked to the skin with afternoon thunderstorms, and then going back UP into the freezing heights.  Honestly, if Twist hadn't hit a big f**king rock and killed his front wheel and then leant me his Widder vest, I don't know how I could have gone on.  As it was, I had to pull over in Ouray for an hour and throw all my stuff in a laundromat dryer.

Lessons learned - Ride Rte 550 in the morning, and never forget your heated gear.

Redfox and I stopped in Montrose on our 2005 ride to British Columbia.  It was late May and I recall we ran into a lot of snow & ice coming over the mountains.  In fact, we ran into snow & ice pretty much on every mountain range we passed over that entire trip.

I hope the 550 is done by next years meet. I just made a ride through there, Moab,Ridgway,Durango and the 550 had no less than three areas of paving going on. There is still a lot of road damage around the Red Mountain and gold mine area, Lot of haul trucks crossing the double yellow in BLIND FRICKIN CORNERS! where the only escape is off the cliff as there is no guard rail. Another fun factor....Big Arse Motor Homes towing cars behind them.

SO yeah the ride down the 550 sucked. The road from Moab to La Salle to Naturita to Placerville to Ridgway was killer, a real sleeper. I saw very little traffic on that path.

I was there in Sep-Oct 2005.  Here's a "no guard rail" picture that I took on the 550.

If you fall off there, they'll find your bones at the bottom in 300 years from now.   Crazy

Hmm.  For some reason I was supposed to head south on 550 after the 2005 National, then had to turn around at Ouray...   Headscratch

Yes, please.  I mean, it was fun and all chitchatting with the peeps after seeing your pale corpus languishing in the hospital bed, but really - we can chitchat some other time.  You don't need to go through any special effort to bring us together.

By the way, l fear all gravel trucks from that day forward.

I love the location!  Montrose is a short 65 mile ride from my home and yes there are many good rides in the area.  The weather can be hot or just right or raining or even snowing on the passes.  Usually the monsoon rains come later in the summer.  I only hope that I am not working that weekend.

The drugs were good,  but the beer sucked.  The company was wonderful  (especially combined with the drugs.)  I'm looking forward to seeing other parts of Colorado than the ditch.

I only hope that I am not working that weekend.

No need to worry about the weekend, as our meets are usually held mid-week, so that STNers coming from the edges of the continent can have 9 days to make the trip. (A work week off and two bookending weekends)

Great to hear about the mid-week.  Even if I do work the weekends around the event I usually have a few days off mid-week.  Being that I wont be riding in from the corners of the continent I might just show up on the Norton.
