So what the hell is this? It seems to be an expression that is spreading through forums like a virus ... along the lines of "hella" (that was hella cool). Or the stock phrase "that is so (blank) on so many levels".
Is "meh" a sound that you make when you shrug your shoulders? I don't feel strongly enough about it one way or the other so I'll just type "meh" to up my post count? What's the point?
Origin? Definition? Probable lifespan before it expires? Whaddya think?

I take 100% credit for inventing the term. I also invented Grunge and the mullet haircut.

Clearly you're a liar. Those two items are mutually exclusive.

If you don't like it, don't worry. In six months or so it will be gone, replaced by some other trendy expression.

"Moran?" Just don't queue up the banjo music when you look at me that way fella! Seriously, I am now enlightened. I stick to my belief that some of these viral expressions are overused, and become a predictable and tiresome waste of my post reading time. Call it a pet peeve ... like "quoting" a 14 paragraph post when you just want to comment on one line. Which then gets re-quoted on and again. In many cases just so somebody can say "meh" or something that adds nothing to the conversation. We can do better than that ... I've book marked that urban dictionary though. I could get stuck on that ! I just promise not to use a phrase that is noted in there, because once it's in there it's no longer "cool". Cool? Dave.

What's really worrisome is such "text diction" is starting to show up in official business emails here at work and in some my kids' homework.
