I love my wifey. She's always been supportive of my moto-habits, and over the last couple of years she began to show interest in the moto life. Got her on a CRF230 (street legalized) for some time in the dirt and some on the street. She went and got her permit by herself (with no prompting from me) and we spent the last couple years taking easy rides around and about. But it was hard for me, since I either chased her on a little CRF89 (non street legal) or on my GPZ (which was tough to keep it slow to match the 230).

Anyway, we have a new street beginner now. Brought it home yesterday.

'87 CBR600 (the original Hurricane). Pretty decent shape, 40k on the clock. CBR1000 bars (2" rise), Stainless brake lines, raised gearing (5 down on the rear sprocket), aux power output, full Yosh exhaust (raspy and kinda LOUD), good tires, good brakes, no untoward sounds in the motor/suspension, new bearings all around.

Oh, and custom paint. Not the prettiest custom paint job I've ever seen, but it'll do for a bike that were' expecting to keep for a couple years.

Welcome a new Leanintree to the world! Here's to you Mrs. Leanintree! I love you babe (and not just for this)

congrats on your wife  Inlove,  her interest, and also the bike.

funny, only one other rider I've met has mentioned raised the gearing on his bike.
I'd guess the Hurricane's prior owner was interested in fuel mileage and not rip-snorting performance.
40K miles - should be good as gold ...

Well, here it is 3 years later. I have a new phone. 3 new computers. A new driver in the house, and the same old job (but I haven't lost it). I also have the same old bike, but the wife can't say the same.

As of a week ago yesterday, the Thermonuclear Cupcake looked like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/LEANINTREE/Craigslist%20For-Sale/2011_0417CBR600_FOR_SALE0023.jpg
Notice the differences? Me neither. That is correct... after 3 years, she has not dropped it even once. I steered her towards an older more inexpensive bike because I expected it would be dropped and dinged (if not crashed). Although I've done maintenance, I haven't had to do any crash repair.

So... it was time. Pic above is from the 18hr Craigslist ad that resulted in sale to a gentleman for his 2 sons to learn on. The son with a license was thrilled. HUGE grin. The other one was out of town, but I assume he's just as into it. I was sad to see it go, but all good things must come to an end.

May I now introduce the wife's NEW ride. 3 years of time on the road without serious mishap means more cushy digs. 2002 Suzuki Bandit 600

Better pics to follow after this weekend. It was raining like a Great Dane pissing on a flat rock when we bought it, and we're fetching it back from the other side of Colorado tomorrow.

Life is good when the Mrs. is happy.

Congrats.

It can get expensive, though.  I already had my VStrom when we got my wife's first bike, a Buell Blast (her choice, not mine).  She then got a Vulcan 800, a Burgman 650, a Honda Silverwing and now has a Yamaha FZ6R.  I still have the VStrom.   Bigsmile

Well, maybe not BETTER pics this weekend, but more anyway. Banzai trip to Denver and back on Saturday resulted in 1 slide on the ice, 1 sticky 4wd hub, 1 FILTHY truck and 1 returned motorcycle.

And now comfortably ensconced in the garage (after a day full of wrenching to make everything work...

Fork seals on Thursday, and miles for the weekend. I already busted the wife just standing in the garage checking it out. That means it was the right choice, right?
