I forgot to put on underwear when I went for a two day 350 miles ride. Being a last minute trip I didn't pack any underwear and forgot to wear some. Lol Well zippers are slightly uncomfortable without underwear, so it was on my mind for a good portion of those miles. People behind me must have thought I was talented for multitasking while riding  Rolleyes, or I had fire ants in my pants.  Lol

So what's your favorite kind of underwear for the road?

I am sure you have your favorite depending on the length of your trip, but on a average what would you wear?

I have some of those "boxer briefs" kind, but since they fit more like compression shorts, I picked that as my answer.  I'd not wear anything that bunches up or chafes.

I tried freeballing, but none of my leathers were ever comfortable enough to leave the boys unprotected for more than hour.  Like raking them slowly over sandpaper.  Crazy

Big fan of serious bicycle shorts or the Underarmour. It really does make a difference.

Recently discovered boxer briefs and recommend them.

I chose "moisture wicking" but what I really ride in is bicycle shorts--not the ones they sell at Target, but real eight-panel $80+ bicycling shorts with a chamois pad in the crotch.

Since I tried the BMW Summer underwear and shirt (moisture wicking) I have been more comfortable and that is because here in Georgia this year we have been HOT HOT HOT.

I like them. They don't bunch they seem to keep me dryer , if not dry, and the have so far not caused any chafing or bacterial issues at all. I shower before putting them on and after taking them off I wash them as with my sox and shirt. This has got me through the worst summer riding ever with zerio issues and includes some day trips over 500 miles out and back. I'm also sold on the panty hose looking beemer long johns if I am wearing a particularly abrasive armored pant. They are not quite as cool but really keep you dry , don't bunch up . Only downside is pride. They look way too much like panyhose.  To me the whole issue is keeping vital parts from chafing or rashes and you get your money's worth with the beemer gear in my view.

I find that microfiber thongs are only good for short days, say 300 miles or less.  boy shorts can go a little longer, but for the long days it's a pair of jogging tights.  Think bicycle shorts with no padding that go down to the ankles.  They keep the over pants from sticking to my sweaty legs and bunching up.

And no cotton, ever.  It is an evil fabric that stays wet and is not good when you'll be sweating.  Crazy

because i wanted it. errrr, duh. Wink

but seriously, unlike a lot of you ST'ers, i only have part of day to go riding (unlike when i was single - TONS of time). if i get enough time to go further than 200 miles, I'm a happy man. as far as why an FJR, the Wife was quite influential. we loved the VFR except for low power. The Busa was not comfy for her. the 750, enough said.

we also planned for the future to go on some 2-3 (maybe 4) week rides.
