Why are BMWs so overpriced compared to higher performance Japanese bikes?

(Atypical asked me to post this here)

The real question is why are they so cheap?
They do stuff like use two coats of paint compared to the Japanese one coat.

See, that's a great way to couch your argument - you *assume* the conclusion - that BMWs are overpriced; so there's no way to refute the position.

It's a really great technique, politicians and other assorted scum have been using it successfully for thousands of years.  (see how I turned that around?)

Is that why you bought that pig of a VFR instead of the cheaper and better CBR?  Twofinger

Jay Leno is not going around saying any bikes are over priced. Maybe we are all under funded.  Headscratch

Jay Leno could probably hand out bikes from his garage and keep a good % of STNers happy (a few of them will b!tch even if they got free bikes).

I didn't say BMWs were overpriced, I said I wasn't willing to spend the money for one.  Big difference.

Part of the reason may be that they come with heated grips, seat, ESA, etc., etc.

They aren't gicing those goodies away for free.

On the other hand, paying $1000 for a stereo "prep kit" thren another $600 for an FM radio seems...unwarranted.
