Did my first ss1000 at NAFO in July, was all in the Colorado twisties. This NAFO group had 24 riders (all on FJR's) for the SS1000. I believe all made it except for 1. This was actually a lot more fun than I thought it was gonna be.

The real question........Who are the "big dawgs" at ST.N, and are ya ready to step up and further define "Sport Touring" ?

If enough interest, I will do my best to coordinate such an event.

please no whinners or nay-sayers, there will be plenty of shorter rides for the whimps!  Lol

I've done 1000+ miles in a day a bunch of times.  It's not hard to do, but I don't find it fun.  I go to the Nationals to meet friends old and new.  As such, I want to have some time left to spend with friends, rather than spend all day from early morning to late night riding.  If I want to ride hard all day, I don't need to go to a National to do that.  Just my $0.04 (damn inflation).

I know we've got a long time before the National, so we will see what may happen by spring.

This SS1000 would be unlike any other most riders have ever done, not a ride the slab out and back, but "One Thousand" + miles, all of it in the Colorado twisties, how can that not pump you up! This ride would be held a day or two before the actual ST.N event. So plenty of time to rest up etc...

I admit this may be a bit much for most, but there are those here who can do this and have a great time, I know, I've rode with quite a few of you!

That's WIMPS, thank you very much.  Razz

I would kinda like to do a SS1000 sometime, but like Twist said, I go to STN meets for the people (and beer). No SS1000 for me at a meet.  Smile

My ride to Gunnison would be 1350 miles. If the weather looks good and I'm feelin' it, maybe I'll try to make it in one day. I would want to time it so the dark hours would be passed on the slab of the Great Plains (never did know what was so damn great about them).

I debuted in the IBA with a SS2K, coming back from the '06 Nat.  (I actually did one on the way there too, but the documentation was questionable.)  I agree with those who want to do it on the way there or back.  The Nat is for hanging out and meeting folks,* not living on SoBe Adrenaline Rush and gas-station burritos while sweatin' the clock.

* And drinking Ant's Scotch.   Bigsmile

Doing a SS1K on the way to Colorado or back, or any other SS1K is no where near the same thing as a SS1K all within the confines of Colorado and on top of that, mapping out a route that keeps us in the meat of the best twisties the state has to offer (and that's alot). I also realize that a group of riders riding the same route and leaving at the same time creates some intimidation, it will get competitive for some guys, it always does, cause someone has to be the first one back. I like this kind of stuff, always have, sorry cant help it.
This was just an idea, something I did last summer with a bunch of FJR riders, 26 of us I believe.
The level of enthusiasm for this type of ride, between this board and the other is
night and day. I would not have thought that. What makes one group of riders get so pumped up to do an event like this, and another group of riders will have very little interest. It cant be the type of motorcycle a person owns, can it?
I don't know, but thankfully I wont keep yammering about this. I was just hoping for a handful of riders looking for what I consider to be the ultimate 1 day ride, and with other like minded riders.
BTW, I reccommend only water to drink, (camel back) dried fruit, cereal bars and peanut butter sandwiches (crunchy) carried in your tank bag.
If your gonna be one of the first ones back, or you want to make really good time, you want have time to go in the gas-station!

With encouragement like your first post I can’t imagine why. Rolleyes

You led a fantastic ride at STN National this year, but most of us have BTDT on the SS1k thing.  So you’re not really offering anything new for many folks.

And as much as I like hanging out with STNers, you're asking folks to take an additional two vacation days if you propose doing it before or after the meet.  Lots of folks will IB it just to make the National.

It's not a bad idea, but the reaction is what it is, not something to complain about or imply that SS1ks are "a bit much."

Now there's my vision of a fun time---blast it on the slab for 1300 miles from Cincinnati to Gunnison and then get up the next morning, in the gorgeous San Juan Mountains, amid all these interesting folks, and jump back in the saddle for 1000 more miles just to prove my dedication to sport-touring. Headscratch
