Very cool! Thanks for posting.
Speed won't cover this because on the way to Dakar you have to turn right as well as left. Lol

the worlds worst "roads" at irresponsible speeds.

Man, haven't seen landscape like that since the Martian rover pictures.

Amazing how they will be in some place that looks like even a cockroach would die there and all of a sudden - there's a village!!

I agree completely!  What causes this geological feature?? Shrug

...and I want to ride there.

Speed's "coverage" makes me crazy.  30 minute highlights jumping between classes, and did they play them in order??  What a shame.

Thanks for the pics.  Cool

Last night speed was showing "40 hours of Barret Jackson" Confused

What? They can't show World Rally, Dakar or any other racing than Nascar? Please.  Rolleyes

At least their terrible programming motivates me to go play in the garage.  Wink

I read in the newspaper (that's right folks, Greenie can READ!) that one of the drivers in the the Dakar rally is none other than NASCAR regular Robbie Gordon.  I guess that means at least 1 NASCAR guy knows his left from his right.  Rolleyes

And for the record, I enjoy NASCAR.  I'm sure I would enjoy other forms of racing equally as well if they were more prevalent on the tube.

Oh yea, neat pics, thanks for those.

Robbie is a long time Baja racer.  Before his open wheel, and before his NASCAR days.  It's apparently not well know.

A friend of mine(Tim Hall #149 Team Heartland-Dakar) just got back from Africa.  Unfortunately his race ended the 6th stage with a dislocated hip.  He's already got some great stories, and some bad memories.  He and Elmer had dinner and did their road books together on the ferry ride from Europe to Africa.

There was a shot a couple of stages back that showed ol' Robbie Gordon giving the bumper push to an expensive little 4 wheeler that just wasn't as fast as him.
Shades of "Days of thunder"
The little fella moved over pretty quick Lol

They showed Gordon givin' him a little wave Thumbsup

But that big Detroit Iron lost time in the tight/soft stuff.

They also showed bikes in dunes that just swallowed the front wheel like a water hole... nose down... over the bars,

MEGA RESPECT for anyone that finishes! Bigok

With the daily teases of highlights I'm getting from "VS" on the Dakar, I had to put in "From Dust to Glory" last night to get my dirt fix on.

What a waste of natural resources, needless thrashing of vast tracks of unspoiled wilderness, decimating local floral and fauna habitat, running the locals scared, mayhem, carnage, complete and utter lack of regard and decency...

Looks like fun to me!  I've seen similar (but not the same) near the Chocolate mountains and other regional areas in SE CA/SW AZ that I've taken my truck through where you can have similar fun.

Those places look like a degree rougher, but not that much different.

I see one of the motorcycle riders died on the last segment (appropriately named for him) - got off the bike, said he felt faint and then collapsed of a heart attack.

42 years old.  R.I.P.

if stock car was about its roots - stock car racing, it would be cool to see how the show room cars did go. or didn't.
