Why?

The TE 610 is excellent, and I like it very very much. It holds a special place for me because it was the bike that got me hooked on some off road adventure...but...

Now that I have my 990 I find I can ride it damn near everywhere I rode the Husky. I don't ride much single track. Mostly I ride back roads and dual tracks. Just like I'm not much of an extreme pavement rider and lean more toward brisk touring, I'm not an extreme off road rider. I like FS roads dual tracks in the Owyhee mountains, etc. I know this sounds strange but I save my extreme off road time for my mountain  bike.  Smile

Hmmm, Am I making a mistake?

Knobblies on the FJR would have served as well.

You're just a bike whore.  ADMIT IT!

But I look at it like this. I want to be able to sit in my rocking chair and know that I tried some different stuff, lived life and had fun. I always hate having to say, "I wish I would have..."  Beerchug

No, no mistake, the TE610 needs to go. What year, how many miles, where is it located, how much do you want for it?

Ah, I was wondering which bike it was that you were thinking about getting rid of in the Kawi thread.

Well, they'll probably still be making them when you realize what a mistake you made...

If I had the $$$ I'd be asking the same thing...but the 690E is calling for me (and I don't have the $$$ for that either).

Obviously you will need to part with one of your mounts to get the ZX14 (which is a decision past the point of no return for a fellow bike whore Wink) So, which off road bike can you live without most???

I'm with you XLR8. I came within millimeters of buying a WR250R, but backed off, partly for the same reason as you: I realized that my KLR is perfectly capable of taking me 90% of the places I want to go (primarily dirt/gravel roads, fire roads, relatively tame doubletrack).

Sell the 610 and the Katoom, buy a used KLR 650, and use the savings to fund many a backwoods tour.

You'd have to spend an extra $3000 on the KLR to make it a half way decent motorcycle.

How's that?  It's tough to get an XRR for $3k; and that's the only way you make a KLR dirt-worthy (by taking the stickers off your KLR and affixing them to a superior bike). Lol

You're about 2 weeks late.

There are two brand new ZX14s sitting in a dealership 6 miles from my house.

I gave up on buying a used dual sport anywhere in my area.  I am very happy with my WR, but I would have loved to have considered a TE.

Are you seeing the connection?

2 weeks late!

Well being that I love mountain biking and two wheels and...

It's going to be hard to let the Husky go though. It's such a nice bike. I'll see how it goes this fall. There's a dude with a VFR for sale in Colorado and if he were just a little closer I'd do some bike selling and acquiring.

I really don't need a street bike. It's true I am just a bike whore.

Look for me in the orange....and yes I did walk across that bridge at the end...I was dead tired and the thought of throwing the bike over the edge 15' down in a river didn't appeal to me.

I'm going to have to tell my brother about this, he just picked up a pounded 610 ('91 frame with a 98 motor) via trade for his GSX-R race bike (he's decided he much prefers his SV650 for racing duties) and he needs dirt rims. Lol

To the OP, from the description of where you ride I don't think you'd be making a mistake in selling the 610, the 990, while big, is perfectly capable in those conditions. Having watched two of my bosses go insane on a 990 and an R1200GS with the big Touratech tanks installed (one of my coworkers showed what you can do on a 955i Tiger too) if you know what you're doing those bikes will go just about anywhere, jump over whatever is in your way, wheelie like a unicycle, and go like stink. They'll also be far more comfortable getting to the dirt.

That said, I'd prefer the 610 myself simply because I don't like big bikes, but that's a personal preference that's not really based on anything but individual taste (I'm picking up KLX400 next Saturday).

I don't know if it's a proper dirt bike or not. It's a 2003 and is a DRZ400 in green shorts. I'm definitely looking forward to checking out Tehuja (sp?) with the fellas at work.

Mostly I'm buying it because I need a bike that's dead reliable instead of reliably dead (the Goose has not been the same since it came apart and I need to have someone who really knows what they're doing go through). 55 mpg will be nice too.

Mostly I'm buying it because I need a bike that's dead reliable instead of reliably dead (the Goose has not been the same since it came apart and I need to have someone who really knows what they're doing go through). 55 mpg will be nice too.

Sorry 'bout the hijack. Smile

A KLX is much more than a DRZ in green skin.  Anyhow Tahuja is a great place and so is Capital Forest.  Supposely on the 22nd of this month I'm going to another place like those places where we can just go and burn gas.  It is on a Monday and I figure you'll be working or I'd invite ya as the other guys I'm going to be with won't be on such straight up dirt bikes as mine.

Ugh, between the music and the sound of a two-stroke trying to lug through a slow technical trail, that's a lot to ask.  Lol

Fun pictures. Post the video when you get it!  Thumbsup

Yeah sorry.  The idea was the trail.  That same dude has better videos.  Anyhow the point is the trails were super technical and never let up.

Yeah, no days off for me for a while. Business has slowed down a little but the sales season hasn't quite wound down just yet.

Actually a KLX is exactly a DRZ in green skin.  Fritz has got it right.

Yeah I guess so...but I see the KLX as more capable...even if they are the same bike.  Lol

That's ok...the place I'm talking about is DR-Z friendly too.

KTM motor, right? That's about all I know about them despite seeing them a few times (usually just being displayed, not ridden).

Wouldn't that overlap with your MTB riding?  Wink  Its kinda funny, cause we are both talking about the same types of bikes.  A road going sport tourer, a multi adventure bike, and a lightweight dirt bike.  Oh yeah a MTB (but mine never gets riden since I left the mountians)

So are you getting the vffr now?

Yeah, KTM motor. That's all I know too. They have some nice Husky TE's too.

Now I can pull the trigger on a VFR and mod it over the winter.  Smile I hope I'll like it but I just may give it a go. If I don't, I guess I can sell it.  Lol

 EEK!

Although there is, well, now it's was an admittedly large overlap between the TE and the Katoom.  Enjoy the Viffer; did I miss the pics of it?

Just wow.

Actually, last night I was just wondering if the Sprint would be my last bike.  Not because it fulfills me, but because I ain't gettin any younger and I want to spend my money on a masters and skiing the next few wintes and lots of alcohol.

A couple of years ago I was taking some enology classes at the local junior college and enrolled in an upper level algebra course to brush up.  It's amazing how many young ladies there are who think that because you're older than their dad you're harmless. Razz  Loved that class.  And chemistry, too.
