From UK Motorcycle News. Some fuzzy photos of what is presumably a pre-production prototype, although it looks ready for production. Should be nice!

I like it, but there's something about the last generation Monsters which look more raw and meaner.

I like it.
The red, sliver, and black is a great color scheme too.

I'm gonna say it again: I don't like the bolt on trellis frame panel. The beauty of Ducatis have been the artistic, structural looking trellis frame. With the bolt on trellis panel, it looks more like someone trying to simulate a trellis frame. They may as well just have the usual front spar like Yamaha or Triumph and be done with it.

A friend of mine nailed it over the weekend when we were talking about the new Monsters. He said they look like a lessor expensive Japanese bike. Sure, they're not bad looking bikes. But, they don't have that wow factor. I still drool over S4RS Monsters. That's a good looking bike!

+1 on the S4RS. But for me, one day I will own a S2R monster--being a fan of air-cooled bikes.
I agree with your friend. It looks like an imposter to the name.

If that's where the Monster's headed, I better grab that S4RS while it's new on the floor.
S4RS in tri-coloure or red/white....
New monster w/ that cheeseball frame bit...

monsters are nice lookin , but I would prob never get one for the maint - changing cam drive belt every 12000 mi just seems absurd, maybe once ya do it it's a simple, pretty cheap deal - with mucho potential for big $$ disaster, I'd be reluctant to do myself.

Saw an S4R at the gym this weekend in red. Aftermarket bar end mirrors. Totally HAWT!
(Although I'm jonesing for an S2R, cuz I like the 1000DS engine)

Changing the belts is actually pretty easy, especially with no fairing to get in the way. Also the 12,000 mile thing is far too conservative, I think Ducati assume everyone is going to be redlining the motor all the time but that isn't going to be necessary with 79.5 ft/lb of torque at 6000 rpm
! Lots of people double that mileage before changing the belts.
I have decided that I do like the looks of the new Monsters, with the possible exception of the slanted headlight. It looks like Suzuki have decided to build their own
Monster lookalike - the Gladius
- who thinks up these names?

The trellis part of the frame *is* a trellis frame, right? So when folks talk about "bolt-on frame", they mean the rear aluminum section sub frame, right? I can live with that, but those exhaust canisters
ruin
everything. And yes, I agree, it's been feminised, but I think it was done *purposely.* I had the honor and privilege of following a young, shapely, tight, thong-adorned posterior riding a Monster a short while ago. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a guy.
It's Ducati's "Sportster", ie "chick bike" for sure. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The Buell has a DSSA, under engine exhaust, aluminum beam frame/fuel tank, belt drive, single zero torsional disc brake, hydraulic valves, 45 degree V, "pull" action under engine shock. The Ducati does not. Not saying the Buell is not a good looking bike, but I fail to see much resemblence, other than they are both air cooled "naked" bikes. But then again, it's in the eye of the beholder and though I'm not "ga-ga" over the new Monster, it looks much better than the XB IMO.

Seeing that the Monster was the Original, I tend to think that the Buell has "borrowed" some styling cue's from the Monster.
On the new one, it's growing on me. Although, I rode a SR4S Tricoloure and I would love to park one next to the ST3 in the garage.

Umm, no they didn't. Other than the black tires, I see no linkages between the two style wise. Oh wait, they also have a handle bar...

Whenever a new "your manufacturer here" bike comes out, there are always those that say the old one looks better...
I love the way the old Monster looks. I love the way the new Monster looks. I don't think the Buell looks anything like it, but I also dig the way the Buell looks!

Buell got the industrial look right - long before there were Confederates. I just don't appreciate the new Monster. Love the old ones though.

They borrowed more from the Triumph Speed3. I don't see much Buell in it at all. Mostly, its a Duc, with a bunch of cool components.

You know, I noticed that, but just couldn't bring myself to even think it.
Buells look like Sears catalogue in-line skates. And now, so does the Monster.
