I received my order from Twisted Throttle Friday and since I had nothing to do this weekend, I started the installation process Friday evening.

I worked a little over three hours Friday evening and only got the top rack and case on the bike.  So, I decided to eat some dinner and get a fresh start in the next morning.

After another three and 1/2 hours on Saturday, I finally had all of the luggage racks and cases mounted to the FZ.  This job isn't the most difficult, but it's not for everyone.  It requires some cutting of plastic and splicing and reconnecting of wires (rear turn indicators).  It's more time consuming than difficult.  This is especially due to the fact the directions say NOTHING on how to disassemble the necessary bike parts and put them back together.  The directions only tell you how to mount the Givi parts.  If I had to do it again knowing what I know now, it would take me 4 hrs maybe.

In all, the components of the Givi luggage system were pretty well engineered for the FZ1.  They fit the bike well and the rack system didn't require a whole lot of "convincing" to get it to fit.

I like the looks of the system on the bike, the functionality, ease of use, and I like the warranty.  The only thing that keeps this set of luggage for being perfect for the bike is (1)  I don't think you can go two-up on it very well w/ the sidebags on and (2) the PLX cases slightly push on the rear turn indicators despite being remounted further back on the Givi tubular system.

Here is the part list for the system I chose:

PLX359 - tubular side case system for PLX sidebags
FZ359 - topcase rack
V35 - 35 liter hard sidebags
E33 - 33 liter topcase
T249 - tank bag

I may exchange the tank bag.  I don't need a large tank bag, but want a full-sized map window.  The T249 is only 15 liters and has a full map window.  However, the side flaps, which contain the magnets, are a little to big for this bike's tank.  But, for $65, it was worth the try.  Givi has the FZ pictured with the T437 on its website.  This is also a magnet bag with a nice sized map window, but it doesn't have the side flaps holding the magnets.  So, it should fit better.  The downside is, the T437 lists for $60 more than the T249 at $125.

Including the shipping, the T249 tankbag, and an extra matched set of locks/keys, the grand total from twistedthrottle.com was $998.78.  Comparred to luggage offered by most manufacturers, I don't beleive that's bad.

Anyhow, here's what my sport-touring bike looks like w/ the luggage on it...

Yes, I have a Arai RX7 full-face helmet which does fit in the topcase.  I haven't tried the sidebags yet, but it fits w/ some room to spare in the topcase.   Thumbsup

From twisted throttles web site.

V35 sidecases are NOT large enough to carry a full-face helmet.

Weight capacity is 22 lbs per sidecase.

Dimensions: 20.7"W x 12.4"D x 15.5"H (526 x 316 x 394mm)

Givi PLX sidecarriers are currently only available for the following bikes:

BMW F800, '06-
Honda VFR800 VTEC, '02-
Kawasaki Ninja 650R, '06-
Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom (does not fit DL650)
Yamaha FZ6, '04-
Yamaha FZ1, '06-

Those look great on there. Thumbsup Nice and tight fit with a factory look to them. I may have to take a second look at the FZ1  Bigsmile  Going two up shouldnt be a problem. It may make it a bit harder for the passenger to get on but with the top box they will be much happier.

For the fun of it, I took an Arai RX-7 and an HJC AC11 out to the garage to see if either fit in the PLX Sidecases.

The HJC fits, but it's tight.  You would want to do it w/ a cover on the helmet to prevent scratches.

The RX-7 does not fit, I believe it's due to the air vents on top.

That FZ1 sure looks good with bags, which can't be said of many sporty bikes.  I'll definitely take a look at an FZ1 for my next bike.
