I used to dump so much money into the Tamiya and Kyosho R/C cars back in the day.....  those things are pretty fun.  Glad I got out of it before I got into the much more expensive gas powered cars.

 Not sure what back in the day is to you, but I started RC in 88.  My stable is mostly Traxxas now and believe it or not it is cheaper to get into it now that it was back in 88. For the $300 it took me to get into it then I can spend the same the same $300 now and get a far better vehicle, better batteries and better charger.  Many of the vehicles are now Ready To Run so all you have to do is charge and go.  If you are into minis (1/18 scale) you can get into it even cheaper.

 Not counting the crawler I just orderd I have 2 Traxxas Stampedes, A Ruster, A Bandit and a Losi Mini LST2.  I have the Rustler set up for the beach in case the fishing is slow. Here it is;

Back in the day for me was like 89-91 or so (while in highschool or a little before).  I picked up one of those Kyosho MiniZ cars a few years back and we would race them around in the office in our back room.  I dig them because they had normal size controllers and amazingly detailed car bodies.

It doesn't take a lot of room to make up a decent track.  I did desktop support in the office I was in and we just setup a bunch of flat carboard keyboard boxes - perfect because they wouldn't damage the cars.  We always were caught up on work so our manager didn't care... good times.

Back in the late 80's I had an Associated RC10 I stuck untold amounts of money into. I'd kinda like to get a Nitro truck. Seems the prices are way lower than I remember.

 Comparitavely prices are much lower than they were in the 80's.  Have you given any thought to going with a brushless electric?  With the new brushless motors and lithium batteries, many of the electrics are as fast or faster than the nitro versions.  In teh late 80's you saw a shift in the hobby to nitro.  I believe it is now swinging back to electric and will probably stay that way for some time.  I believe this becasue nitro has basically hit it's limit on advancement where are electric is becoming much more efficient and it requires far less upkeep than a nitro version.

I had an RC10 also...man what a money pit (for my father anyway).  Lol

My father and my brother had them too. I remember my dad getting an old stop sign from the street department so I could build my own chassis.  Thumbsup We still have all of them in my parents basement as far as I know.

There was a guy with a Nitro truck out at the beach last year while I was patroling. That was a pretty cool machine. We blocked off the parking lot and ran radar on it to see how fast it would go. I think I remember it getting up to 62 MPH.

My biggest issue back then was having to charge batteries all the time. The whole gas and go concept just appeals to me more. I'm not saying I'm opposed to electrics, it just appears to be more of a hassle.

  I agree that the gas and keep going feature of nitro is nice.  However, for me, the periodic maintenance; after run oil, making sur all the fuel lines are drained, cleaning/oiling the filter, retuning every time the weather changed and occasionally rebuilding the engine just made it to big of a hassle.  With my electics, I just blow the dirt off with the compressor and put the vehicle back on the shelf till next time.  As far as constantly having to charge batteries, I work around that by having multipule battery packs.  While multipule packs might seem a bit costly at first, throw in a few gallons of nitro and a new piston/sleeve and you have paid for you batteries.

So whenever I slack at work I just call in PR?  Sweet.

No, Dr. lab advisor, I'm not  making motorcycle parts on the lab's mill.  I'm working on the lab's PR and recruiting campaign.   Lol Lol
