Just put some spare rubber on and had the spare wheels balanced... except I think they've done a poor job... have a look at these... a bit excessive?

REAR

The front is fitted, and for the first time ever, when I take my hands off the bars I get a wobble which left unchecked gets really out of shape.   Mad2

Is that 65g on the rear tire?  Are those race take-offs?

Are you sure the front tire pressure is correct?  My bike will wobble if I take my hands off when the front tire is low.

Looks like you've got a 3+ ounces on the rear and maybe a couple ounces on the front?  Not all that unusual for Dunlops.  Looks like they cared enough to distribute the weight to both sides of the rim, nice touch.

Edit, took a closer look...

35 grams up front and 65 grams on the rear. Answer is still the same, not bad.  That's only about 1oz front, and 2 oz on the rear.

Bike: zzr1100

Stock pressures: 41/41

Tyres: Dunlop 207RRs [part worns]

never had a shake on before, ever [I own 3 1100s, and all wear my preferred 207s or 208s]

Someone's just pointed out that yellow dot marks the heaviest point on the tyre and SHOULD be on the opposite side to the valve... here, all the weight is in one spot which is just WRONG [???]

Used this shop before?

I've complained when my amigo mounts a tire and then puts on an excessive amount of weight.  If they are in a hurry they might not (re)rotate the tire to compensate for the heavy part.  Of course, many on this forum say you don't need to balance tires at all.

I always thought that the dot marked the lightest part of the tire, and should be right at the valve like you have it.

I've been mounting my own now for about two years.
I've discovered that careful position of the tire in relation to the valve stem usually results in a very close to balanced state.
So close, that ANY amount a weight starts screwing things up, and I am better off without.
I might qualify all this by saying that I am NOT ordinarily over 100 for very long, and that my bikes all FEEL fine (which is not very scientific)...

Odd.  I balance mine with the dot at the valve stem.  That's always been my understanding and how I was shown by the local tire guy at the track (he had broken collar bone the day before and I really needed tires, so it was self server tire service  Lol  I learned some good tricks thought  Thumbsup )  Normally I don't need much weight.

I did recently come across a problem though that may affect the original poster though.  Some wheels and wheel bearings roll freely enough that you can statically balance the wheel on it's axle, on some kind of stand.  In some cases there is enough drag on the bearing seals that the balancing will not be accurate.  In this case, you may get the symptoms described.

Tenbears:  Did you balance the wheels with the axle, or a proper low-friction balancer?

Also, I don't want to spin the thread of into the oblivion of tire pressures, but holly-crap!  What the heck are you carrying that you need that much pressure!?!?  EEK!

Hi Zed,

I believe the shop use a machine for balancing, although i wasn't watching at the time, and yes, I know about the other technique.

Why those pressures? Because they are the OE, standard pressures quoted by Kawasaki.... and I have always gone by them and never had a problem. Infact if the front drops below that I've found it handles like there's a nail in it.....

I have to find out now what those dots actually mean: heaviest or lightest point?

Also, that wobble I mentioned will be caused by bad balancing if it appears at 40 but disappears at 80, apparently, so I'm about to test that theory this morning on the commute.

And they would be wrong. Period.

Tires may be close to balanced when mounted and some times even spot no (no pun intended), but should still at least be checked.

The dot on tyre is the light spot. Normally you align it with the airvalve which is normally the heavy spot. Though the heavy spot on the on the rim is never truely known till you balance the rim sans tire. There's still a good chance the heavy spot is not at the airvalve.

Personally, I just switched to just using dynabeads internal balancing. It's working for me so far...
