Since Kawasaki's letting their new models slowly out of the bag, I decided to look around and see what else is new for the year.

Looks like Yamaha has fully faired the FZ6 with something called the FZ6R.Low seat height and middleweight displacement will make it attractive to noobs.  I wish they had a picture of the speedo and tach displays.  I want to know if it has a fuel gauge, etc.

I also think it's interesting that Yamaha's starting to put mpg on their spec sheet.

I saw the FZ6R up close at the Indy GP. The FZ6R has the same instrumentation as the FZ6. Analog tach and digital everything else. Unless they omitted that stuff when they redesigned the gauge cluster from the all digital ones of the original FZ6 it should come with Fuel, Temp, Clock, Two Trip Meters, etc. I have some photos back at home but did not take one of the instrument cluster.

I sat on the FZ6r at Indy as well. I'm somewhere between under- and merely-whelmed by it, but after 2 years with an actual FZ-6, I'm really not in their target market.

The biggest disappointment I noticed was the omission of the 4-way flashers. The blanking plate on the left grip just screamed "cheapskate" to me.

I really don't understand the downgrading of The FZ6 to compete. Longer, lower, more steering angle, smaller rear tire, smaller fuel capacity, a more usable ingnition curve (De-Tuned even more) with only $$200 - $300 less in price? Why bother? But, the added lower fairing is a nice touch. I did much comparison of the FZ6 and the 650R when buying last year. The FZ6 won out handily.

I agree they are going after some Ninja 650 or maybe even the Suzuki GSX650F or GS500 buyers with this FZ6R.

I just wish the bastards would bring the TENERE to the states to compete with the KLR, DR650 etc.... but noooooooooooo they wont consider that.

Linky

I'd call it a GSX650F competitor... it even looks like one from the front.

It does have a fuel gauge.

This was taken from Yamaha's site (emphasis added):

The new meter panel gives the rider plenty of feedback, including a digital display speedometer, analog tachometer, odometer/tripmeter, fuel gauge, and water coolant gauge.
