It's been a while.
Time to take advantage of the great fall riding we have here. So I went out to one of my favorite areas...can't really come here in the summer because these canyons will cook you like a little pizza.
Bike and Canyon Porn
Cool Rock Formations in These Parts
For those that may know the area, way way down there is Lake Owyhee
Lake Owyhee with not much water in it
Leslie Gulch, this place is cool
Thanks for looking. I like to show you guys pictures of the area.

Heh heh, thanks for the snapshot photo compliments. My little Canon SD850 has some depth of field eh?
OK, time to think about thinking of planning a Steens trip. I wonder if I can do it on the twin. Also I gotta give you back your valve stem core remover thing. I took it with me today just in case!
Also, I put a knobby on the front (Karoo 2) and it is so much better in the dirt now and not bad on the highway at all.

What's the rear tire? Almost looks like a Dunlop 616.

The rear tire is a
new
Scorpion A/T.
The old one was murdered in the parking lot (or somewhere close) of The Dreamer's Lodge in John Day Oregon.

Yeah I've swapped knobbies to/from streetier tires on the 640 a bunch and I'm just going to stick with knobbies for everything from now on. You don't give up much on the street and gain a whole lot in the dirt.
Steens...What are you doing next weekend? (halfway serious...)

Great pictures of some awesome terrain. Makes me wish for something I could ride to places like that. But alas, my short legs don't do well with 35" or greater seat heights. Cant't flat foot it, don't want to ride it.

If Leslie Gulch looks that spectacular when stuffed into a camera, it must be
really
cool in person.
So while I was trimming the lavendar in the front yard with Hallie,
you
were out riding. Color me jealous.
Ah well, did get to see "Burn After Reading" so the day wasn't a total loss...

Yes! I recovered from my lack of air in tires and off again before the snow comes.
"Burn After Reading"? A play? Wait... I swear I live in a box. I missed that one. Any good?

I think we should do it. Maybe mtrider16 would swing by here on his sweet sledgehammer*GS* and we'll come over there.

Is April or May doable for Leslie Gulch for folks here? We'd make sure the May wknd would not conflict with the Western regional meet. Geez 2008 season hasn't ended and already I'm jonesing for 2009.

I like it. Let's start making some plans.
Jordon Valley typical weather
April
: Normal High: 63°F Normal Low: 31°F Normal Average: 47°F
May
: Normal High: 71°F Normal Low: 39°F Normal Average: 55°F
The other option would be the Steens and Alvord, but the Owyhees are closer for mtrider16 (practically Idaho...) and there's a lot to ride, see, and do there. Is there a hotel in JV? Bunkhouse in Silver City? XLR8 might have to camp

It depends on how high we want to go. I'd like to head to the Steens and Alvord desert but it would be better when we could ride out on the big dried up lake and I think that doesn't happen til July. I always thought it looked cool.
Not my bike
I joke about camping but I enjoy it, I just need to buy a little tent and some things.
The Steens are high, not sure if we could get up there in May or not. Actually it's the same with Owyhees. Last year I had to wait til June to get through to Jordan Valley and Three Forks. It depends on the snow though, but there's snow in the Owyhees now!
Man, I gotta tell you guys, usually I do not fight the coming of Winter too much. This year is harsh. I am just not ready. I need to go find some Pyramid Snowcap and prepare myself.

If you want to do an april or may meet, I think it would be prudent to try lower elevations.
We got about 5 inches of white stuff. I'm not ready for it.

What about a July date?

It would be hot but we have camel backs right.
So I sold my 610, I'll have to pick a big bike route. Shouldn't be too hard.
We could do it all...Steens, Three Forks, Leslie Gulch over the mountains to Silver City...
