So are you watching??  Charley is a bit whiney don't cha think? But then he is an actor and likely takes direction well. "In this scene Charley baby ... you are riding in anxiety"  .... Charley - riding in anxiety ... why?  " you have anxiety from life ... the great unknown ... improvise"  ... Charley ... Ok ... gotcha

I am enjoying the overall sense of being in the Dakar from an equipment and organizational point of view. It looks daunting. The riding is varied and I suspect will become more so as they head into the desert. The crash in tonights episode was amazing ... did you see the damage to the tank ... wow.

Schedule of broadcasts for your area here ...

I've seen 1/2 of the first episode, and the 2nd one.  Didn't see the crash though.

What nights is it on?   I've only caught it by chance.

From the link I posted .. it is on at 3pm mountain time.  You need to tape it then or call your local station.

Me thinks Charlie would have a tragic event in a Tim Horton's parking lot.

Him riding the Dakar is like me partying in the Playboy mansion. A dream yes, but how about a reality check here.EEK!

Boorman was on the CBC The Hour last week.  I think he was at the Toronto MC show to push his new book and DVD.

This is a spoiler, so don't watch it if you do not want to know the outcome now.

Here's the interview.

Good post Acadian Rider, I'd missed The Hour interview and glad I've got it now. I got to briefly meet Charlie and producer Russ at the Toronto Bike Show. Very nice people who are only too happy to talk to you.

I ordered the DVD's from the UK *.   Pretty good story, but obviously made as television with the intros and recaps in each episode.   Not family friendly vocabulary however, with about 10,000 uses of f**k.   I felt it gave a very interesting perspective on the race and how tough it is.   I was rooting for Si - - seemed like a good guy.

Well OLN did a New Years day loop in the race to Dakar. I sat through 5 hours of it and the buggers skipped the last episode, so I have no idea if Mat or Simon finished.

I am leaving it to Leo to provide the details.

Not a bad series though, and in addition to the "F" word, I think the most often spoken phrases were "It's so hard" & "everyone expects me to fail". I do think Charlie needs a shrink.

I would give them kudos though, not something that I would ever attempt.

Or wait a minute... Here is a gazillion Euros from your nice corporate sponsors, take a year of work and have fun, go to the gym, ride.... Hmmmmm what the hell did I just say?

I haven't seen the end of it either. I managed to watch up until the leg after Charlie got out, but that's it. Is there 1 or 2 episodes after that? Regardless, the 2007 Dakar is about to start up, but OLN is not broadcasting coverage until Jan 29th. What's with that? No realtime coverage in Canada, none in the US that I can see. Am I going to have to watch online?

Watching gave me a whole new appreciation for those who do it as independents, no support vehicles, no mechanics,   BIG BALLS.

Did you mean Léon?   Razz

There are still two episodes to be shown on OLN.  Episode 6 is being shown tomorrow night and 7 on Jan 17th.

As for me, I couldn't wait to see the end of the series on T.V.  I bought the book and  have already read it.  As always, the book is better.  You get more details and a lot of respect for all the privateers (spelled IDIOTS  Lol ) that attempt it.

The book is in 3 parts and the 3rd part is the continuation of the story as told by Simon, Matt and Charley after Charley was forced to drop out with broken hands.  For me, it was the best part of the book because you finally get a break from listening to Charley complain and you get another perspective.

Hey Leon:

I am sorry, when ever I hit the French accent keys on my computer, smoke appears buddy!

Oh, and I have fat arthritic fingers too!

Thanks for the schedule. I am just missing the last episode.

But I agree with you, I hope Charlie does not do too many more series. Man, if my dog complained that much I would have her put to sleep.

The disc isn't in PAL format.  It is in DVD format which is MPEG2.  What you do need is a regionless DVD player or a region 2 DVD player.  US and Canadia is Region 1 and you can only switch the region on your computer's DVD driver around 5 times.

Boorman is an annoying whiner and I was very disappointed in his stamina in the pre-race training.  He dropped out of a couple of the local dirtbike races because he was tired.  I mean, you're training for the toughest race in the world, suck it up and push yourself.

All that said, I think he did do pretty good in the actual race - he surprised everyone.

Brother-in-law and I were glued to the TV.  After watching it though, we decided we'd never want a BMW X5 - I mean that thing broke down on cue it seemed.

I think Simon finished the race but Matt dropped out in the sand dunes and was left out there for a couple of days.

I did manage to catch the Final episode, and after that all day marathon, if I hear the sond "it's just a race to Dakar" ever again, I wil probably kill something.

In all fairness to Charlie though, I did find the show some what entertaining. I am quite certain I never need to enter that one!
