Zumo 550 screen

Just thought I'd help a few people from making the same mistake I did. I rode to Robbinsville NC this weekend & at the end of a 8 hour ride :pI unpacked the bike set my GPS on the TV in the hotel room & thought nothing more about it. When my room mate showed up from his ride he was hanging up his leathers & accidentally knocked my GPS off the TV. No big deal I picked it up & set it back up there
. The next morning as I was getting ready to head out for a day of riding I noticed as I was putting the GPS in the mount that there was a little crack in the screen. As the unit fired up it became apparent that it was a nice starburst in the screen. So I called Garmin when I got home $200.00 for a new screen.
Next time I'll use the little case it came with. USE THE CASE!!!!!!

Odd.
Was this from an impact on the screen itself or just it landing on the floor?
I'd think a GPS should handle being dropped, but I could see a direct strike to the screen damaging the screen.

To be honest I don't think it just hit the floor. The TV was on one of those TV stands the have a pole on 4 legs & I'm guessing it must have fell perfectly to hit one of the steel feet. It didn't fall that far or hard.
The crack was in the bottom left corner where the back button is usually positioned. I'm sure if it was in the case it wouldn't have happened. Or if my roommate wasn't a bull in a china shop. But I will take the blame & I will assure you it will never be where it can happen again.

And for future notes, never throw your unit in a Magnetic Tank bag for any period of time.
Yes I found out the hard way, though it was still under warranty and they didn't need to know anything other than it turns on, but nothing happens.

What does the tank bag do to it?

What does the tank bag do to it?
My flaps automatically fold back under the bag when pulled off the bike. The magnets from the tank bag are strong enough with enough time (overnight) to wipe the hard drive and render it useless. It basically acts as a degausser for the hard drive of the unit, or any other magnetic media. I didn't figure it out till I noticed that all my other magnetic media was either "screwed" or operating at a less than stellar pace.
