Seattle: ride this weekend?
«
on:
October 08, 2008, 07:30:59 PM »
They're still predicting clear weather this weekend. I have about 35 hours work in so far (and it is only Wednesday) and really will be ready for it.
I was thinking one last trounce in the mountains if it's warm enough--my Rainier route had a lot of twisting and not-the-city setting, but if it's really nice, Highway 20 a final time. If the mountains are cold, then perhaps circumnavigating Whidbey and seeing the three forts at the head of the sound.
Anyone interested? I'll figure out meeting details and the like tomorrow--my brain is toast tonight.

I was thinking about going someplace Sunday, but Saturday would work too.
One last ride over the mountain would be nice, but whatever.

I'm free this weekend.
I've been thinking about taking a ride to see, and maybe photograph some fall colors. The mountain passes are looking a little harsh right now, so I've kind of given up the idea of Tumwater Canyon, but with decent weather and a drier route, I'd be in.

It isn't forecast to rain at Newhalem until Monday afternoon. The forecast also predicts no freezing temp after Friday , early morn. This might be the last good weekend in the mountains.

I had another thought. How about taking the Edmonds Ferry and going out to Neah Bay and Cape Flattery?

Ooo! That would be awesome if it's clear on the coast.
I have to admit I'm concerned about hunting season. Deer are extra-stoopid this time of year.

It looks like the weather this weekend will be about as good as it gets in winter around here. I'll be putting the liner in the riding suit now.

I'd shoot for the mountains for a "last hurrah!". Riding the peninsula in the winter can be sketchy, but it can be done. The mountains, on the other hand.... once they're closed, you're done for the season.
Just my opinion from warm and dry California!

Back last night from being out of town. This morning it was 31 degrees with frozen fog. I still can't see the end of my driveway,
If I get out for a romp today, it will be this afternoon.
Hope the fog is localized and the rest of you have/had a great ride. BTW what is/was the final decision on where to ride to?

We are going to Neah Bay, but we are awaiting JStanford for the time. I assume tomorrow morning.

I see that the ferry leaves at 8:40 and every 20 minutes after that. Would you be up for the 8:40?

I rode out along Woods Creek to Granite Falls today. Cold in the shade.
Stopped by the gym on the way home. Now it feels like I pulled something near my right shoulder blade.
I was only 30% before, now zero chance.
Stay warm... take some photos..

Ok, here ya go...
Called up JSanford this AM about an escape into the hills - we decided on a loop around Rainier. 410/123 down the east side to 706 across the south to Paradise.
Late lunch in Enumclaw. The Sprint edges the Italian hussy (not JSanford) out of the picture
On 410 overlooking the Carbon River. Again, the Sprint gets in the way...
Reflection lakes - finally, the Sprint shares the picture...
Fall heather at Paradise - I just love that little old couple in the bottom left...
Heading down the fun towards Longmire

+1
I'm not sure Jon and I (Jon) would have done this ride without her
It looks like the other half of our group (the Mt Rainier half) saw a bit more sunshine than we did. We had some gread riding.
I added some pics to Jon's ride report.
