I've got ~13K on my 06.

The engine smooths out quite a bit after the initial 600 mile service. I've noticed there's still a bit of vibration around 4100rpm, but it smooths right out at +/- 200rpm.

For optimal gas mileage, I stay in 5th gear. 6th gear is just too tall, and actually yields less mileage in most cases. Riding 80-85mph GPS indicated the bike spins about 5000rpm, and nets me about 44mpg .. but I've got a rather large Aeroflow windscreen up front.

Boxer engines don't begin to hit their stride until well after the 10K mark.  I've got 20K on my GS, which is an oilhead like the ST, and it's just now feeling broken in.

I'm considering an R1200Rt and looking for any owners that could tell me more about the bike, and describe it's mannerisms.

I'm also considering an FJR1300.

My 03 R1150GS. Mannerisms..After a long hard hot day of running, sounds from my 1150GS's seems to become louder for me. Valve noise is there along with the cam chain rattle. The single disk dry clutch can also warm up feeling alittle grabby. Being 3 or 4 states from home I tend to listen more closely to mechanical sounds. Next morning upon cold startup, everything has quieted down and any concerns disappear. Five bars on the temp display is optimal. Five or six bars will show with fast interstate travel. I can get at least 10k on a rear Metzler Tourance. I probably have run up more miles on Boxer engines than any other ie; Volkswagens, Porsche, Subarus and the BMW R's. The FJR would interest me but I just don't know if the extra power is worth a larger, heavier bike.
