After careful consultation with the DenMother (tm) I have started a new thread for those wishing to sign up for this years ride.

Your hosts

You are invited to join GetFuzzy, Kootenanny, alphabet man and myself in Castlegar BC for a weekend of great riding, marvelous scenery and the world famous BBQ on the beautiful and pristine shores of Arrow Lake.

Welcome to the Kootenay Borscht, Burn and BBQ 2007 !

Where is Castlegar you ask ???

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/BCMap.gif

Nestled beneath the magnificent peaks of the Selkirk and Monashee Mountain ranges, at the confluence of the mighty Columbia and Kootenay Rivers, Castlegar welcomes visitors to it's small city with a big community spirit.
Castlegar is the focus of no fewer than 9 dams controlling the water flow and generating electricity for all North Americans. Hence our claim that Castlegar is the best "Dam" city in the world!

When is this magnificent event ??

July 27, 28 and 29.

Friday Night meet and greet at bubba's house in Castlegar for Sausages, Bevvies and of course ... (giggle) .. "The Borscht" !!!  Bigok

Saturday morning meet at Timmies in Castlegar for a quick coffee and then we ride.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/borscht07-2.jpg

The "Burn !!!"

Pass Creek road to Crescent Valley over to Highway 3A through Nelson and along Kootenay Lake to Kaslo.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/3a.jpg
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/bbbbq2006011.jpg

From Kaslo on the amazingly twisty and newly paved, Highway 31A to New Denver.
DH5 Destination Highways says " Up one series of rivers and down another, past the crumbling ghost towns of the Silver Rush, it’s sometimes a tight squeeze through the mountains between New Denver and Kaslo. Demanding? Yes. But if you haven’t ridden this classic, you haven’t ridden B.C."

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/DSC04066_edited.jpg

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/DSC04075_edited.jpg

From New Denver on Highway 6 through Nakusp to Fauqhier across Arrow Lake on the free ferry and then continue on the nearly traffic free Highway 6 all the way to Lumby for lunch. We will return on Highway 6 in the opposite direction all the way to Castlegar. DH2 Destination Highways says "An enormously varied riding experience, it ranges from farmland to wilderness, canyon to mountain summit, and tight narrow twisties to long, leaning sweepers. This road is so quiet, ranchers herd cattle on it. "

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1/JimFisher1956/d7e1140c.jpg

Total mileage for the day ---------   EEK!  709 km or 439 miles  Many other options exist if anyone wants to ride a lesser distance. Maybe the alpha bet man wants to lead a dual sport/ big traillie ride ???  Hmmm Dave ?

Needles Ferry
Route across the Lower Arrow Lake, about 59 kilometres south of Nakusp on Highway 6, between Fauquier and Needles.
Daily, year-round schedule; 5:50 am to 10:30 pm
From Fauquier: 6.00 am to 10.30 pm, every half hour, on the hour and half hour.
From Needles: 5.50 am to 10:15 pm, every half hour, quarter before and quarter after.
Crossing time: 5 minutes.

"The BBQ!!!"
Saturday evening we head out to the alphabet man's splendid cottage on 100's of acres of some of the nicest waterfront in the world on shores of pristine Arrow Lake for the famous Kootenay BBQ and Bonfire Follies !! It would be wonderful if folks who are attending the BBQ could chip in $15 -$20 for goodies. Of course, we will use any leftovers for good Kootenay beer !! - Many thanks.

The Nighthawk S wont exactly be handling those sexy mountain curves like the newer and better handling bikes do.  So don't be surprised when I come up from behind like a dirty old man on a walker, racing to get inside the strip club.

Nice job Bubba Bigok
As far as free accomadation we always have an extra bed or 3 at the cabin and an unending amount of room if you prefer to camp. Just let myself or Bubba know.  One point to remember for those that prefer not to ride thier bikes on gravel, it is 12 km of gravel to the cabin. Last year a couple of the local attendees supplied rides  for those that did not want to take thier bikes on the road. The road is fine for all bikes if your not to particular, there have been many bikes to the cabin, FJR's FJ's FZR's V-stroms a few cruisers
Most importantly remember that for the Sat. night BBQ your S.O. and children are welcome even if they don't ride. Please if you do drink Sat. night do not plan on driving home we have lots of room.
